When I blindly reached out to you at the last minute from New Hampshire in late January of 2021, during COVID, to see if you could possibly meet Tim at a last minute showing of a 1977 relic of a house to discuss the possibility of transforming it into a home, it was a true blessing. With your advice in hand, we took a leap of faith to start the year long journey to renovate this house into an amazingly comfortable, modernized home that we truly value each day. You immediately had recommendations to share over the phone with me. Since I only had the photos from the listing to dream from, you were my eyes and my measuring tape. You were patient and kind and considered all my concerns and ideas. Mike, your emailed, hand drawn renderings were such a vision to work with each time we spoke. My husband and I decided we wanted to build an in-law apartment. We hired Mike to be the architect. Mike had so many great ideas for the in-law. We talked about using part of the existing home, Mike came up with a much better solution, one that saved us money and it was more isolated for privacy. It was also builder friendly. It looks like its part of the house. Mike was also conscientious about getting the plans to us and explaining the work that was going to take place. I would have reviewed this architect sooner, but I really wanted to take some time to offer my honest feedback: he's an absolute delight and an expert in his field of architecture. I feel so completely lucky that I found Michael LoBuglio on Houzz. If I ever do something with my home in the future, I'm running my ideas by Mike first. All my neighbors are hoping to start some home projects and more than a few have asked for his information. They want to hire him and all my contractors based on the results of our project in Milford, CT. It feels so great to have added some curb appeal to the neighborhood. It feels even better that in the end, hiring an architect saved us money. I consider myself a very independent and creative person. I know I can make something look good. But you need someone like Mike to take your ideas (dreams, maybe) to create a GREAT home that works for your family and lifestyle. Mike comes to you excited to make renderings of what your home will look like in a very short time period from meeting him. In you first meeting at your home, Mike asks you what you like and don't like about your house. You walk around with him and you see that you are not the only one excited to get to work. He is too. He didn't just have one or two ideas for us. He came to us with many options for how the front of our home was going to look within a short time period of meeting him. After you pick the direction of your home (farmhouse, coastal, colonial, etc.) and from his sketch drawings (I'm framing my original), Mike gets to work making beautiful and considerate plans. He asks the little questions along the way to make sure the drawings are near perfect. Example: "Do you want the closet door nearest this wall? Where do you envision the walkway and flow". Just as easily, he'll stop you from making a mistake. "Ooo! Okay, I see why you would like sliders to go there, but then you have an obstructed view due to xyz..." He also knows a lot of contractors in the industry. I have shopped my own contractors with just using reviews. I took a chance, and based on the honest and hard working guy I believe Mike to be, I went with a contractor he referred to us. Another best choice ever. We are in a weird situation where we are doing a few renovations for family (one in Texas, another in NYC). This is by far, the most fun I've had renovating. And there is an honesty where we can talk about what will work, what didn't work, how we can get around hurdles, maybe one or two change orders, etc. I never once had to talk badly about anyone on our project behind closed doors. I have been very VERY happy. If you are thinking, "Gosh, I love the idea of an architect, but I'm just not sure if I need one. I could work with just a contractor and get away with a few little problems." Hear me: investing in an architect like Mike will save you time and money in the long run. My family and I have lived in our 1850 antique farmhouse for 23 years and I have dreamt of renovating the kitchen since day one. Our existing kitchen is very long and narrow so we need an addition to accommodate a kitchen island. Since I'm an interior designer, I designed the kitchen layout and interior space. However, I needed help with the exterior so that the addition would keep to the original character of the house. A friend recommended Mike and he quickly proposed four hand-sketched exterior options (a sign of a true designer). All were great options and the design that my family and I chose blends beautifully with our understated, humble farmhouse. Mike totally nailed it! He had great input and recommendations for the kitchen interior as well. In addition to being a talented architect, Mike is responsive, easy to work with, and truly cares about his clients and projects. I hired Mike on the strength of the designs I saw here on Houzz and on the mile-long list of stellar reviews he has received. In a nutshell, Mike deserves all of the 5 star reviews and more. During our first conversation, I was struck by his kindness and his ability to listen. His drawings were clear and inventive, while incorporating what we had discussed. Working entirely remotely, he was able to offer a concrete vision for an extensive renovation of my home. He designed a new kitchen, a new master bath, and many changes to the exterior of our home. I have never worked with an architect before and I had my reservations, Mike has forever dispelled them. I will contact him for all future projects that we have.

We hired Michael LoBuglio to create architectural plans for our in-home theater, rec area, wet bar, and powder room within a 900 sq foot unfinished space. There were challenges to raise the ceiling level as well as multiple floor levels; the space required steps up to the powder room and steps down within the theater area. He was wonderful to work with and understood our needs perfectly. He also was instrumental in adding new ideas that were better than what we had envisioned. He made the best use of the space possible and we are extremely pleased with the results. He always arrived on-time with a smile and he finished the work in a timely fashion for a reasonable price. My wife and I purchased a home in New Canaan, Ct in February. It was our first large scale renovation; we blew out walls, redid the kitchen, foyer and 3 bathrooms. This was our first time doing something like this and we were so grateful to have worked with Mike. We were looking for an architect who could help us with a large addition project to our Idyllic 1933 New England farmhouse. We used Michael LoBuglio Architects for our outdoor covered patio plans and they were outstanding. We were particularly impressed with Michael’s professionalism and responsiveness in turning around a short fuse request for us. We had a great experience working with Mike and highly recommend him. My wife and I bought a spec house that Michael had designed, and hired him shortly after the purchase to design a covered porch for it. Yes, Michael exceeded our expectations in terms of his design, his attention to detail, his excellent turnaround time and his budget consciousness, but here's the thing that I keep coming back to, about him: he may be the most copied architect I've ever met. As we've walked around different neighborhoods in our town, we see no end of new homes that have taken certain elements of design that he's known for...but they never really get the whole "look" of his work. I'm not an architect, and I don't have the correct language for it, but here's how I put it: Michael understands form AND function. For all the houses we looked at that were lovely on the outside but not well-planned in terms of layout...and all the houses we saw that were comfortable inside but seemed awkward from the road, Michael's homes manage both beauty and practicality. They're elegant without sacrificing warmth. (I've already informed my wife that the only way she's getting me out of this one is in a pine box.)

We contacted Michael a few weeks after we experienced a fire at our house in Trumbull. Michael was very prompt in his response and after meeting onsite provided an fee which I felt was very reasonable. When we started planning the full renovation of our 1930s vintage home we began with the task of finding a reputable architect. After interviewing a number of architects, some recommended we decided on Mike LoBuglio that we found on the Houzz website. It was his sense of design, ability to determine what could or could not be accomplished structurally and ability to understand exactly what we were looking to achieve and not what he just wanted to give us. Working with Mike was a pleasure. The design plans he gave us made it easier to understand how the renovation would look. Mike was always quick to incorporate our design changes and give appreciated opinions. Through the Renovation, Mike always followed up with us on the progress and also interfaces with the contractor. Another point was that Mike was instrumental in helping us find a great contractor for the work. When we decided we wanted to do a large scale renovation to our new home in Rowayton, we didn't know where to begin. We interviewed countless contractors, design build groups, interior designers, and architects and felt overwhelmed with no clear directions. After meeting with Michael and speaking with him a few times we felt consistently comfortable and confident in his ideas and process. Michael designed and rendered the front fascia of my restaurant, the detail of stucco, windows, and doors. Besides being professional, responsive, and talented, he is a pleasure to work with.

Michael did a great job preparing architectural drawings for my new house. He is a skilled and speedy artist. His ability to quickly sketch - and resketch - the whole building in its setting let me see what I had envisioned would actually look like. He also works incredibly hard. We had a deadline we wanted to meet and he went above and beyond the call of duty to get us finished drawings to file with the town.

We worked with Mike to gut and remodel our 1960's colonial in Westport which included an addition, a complete gut of the downstairs, expanding the kitchen, moving a bathroom, and redesigning the master bathroom. As a young couple my wife and I had the great fortune and pleasure of working with Mike LoBuglio on what has turned out to be our dream house for the past 28 years. One of the first things that impressed me about working with Mike was his ability to make this project a collaboration. By asking increasing specific questions Mike made what could have been a complex, arduous task into an incredibly rewarding experience. Examples of this were his recommendation of skylights once he determined the back of the property faced east. We had never thought of this ourselves, but every morning the natural light and warmth of the sun reminds us of why Mike is such a highly regarded professional. Another example is his foresight into designing the kids "playroom" in such a way that it could be quickly and inexpensively turned into a "In-Law" suite when the time came to care for my wife's mother. Throughout the process Mike was readily available for our never ending list of questions. He displayed an amazing amount of patience as we asked him to relocate the downstairs powder room at least six times. (We finally took his recommendation and have been happy ever since). Mike made himself available to us and our contractor throughout the construction process and beyond, no small feat considering the distance between his office and the job site in West Virginia. After 28 years we can honestly say there isn't a thing we would change regarding the design of the house. Many people have told us what a difficult and depressing process building a house can be. Our experience is quite the opposite thanks in very large measure to working with Mike and getting everything "right" the first time.

Michael did a top to bottom total renovation of our house. He did a phenomenal job of taking the time to understand our needs from the initial consultation to budget concerns and articulated them perfectly in the final design. When you see the before picture compared to the finished renovation you cannot believe it is the same house. Thank you Michael for taking our 1954 home from "charmless" to amazing.

When purchasing a new home, I needed to turn a bonus room into a bedroom. Michael presented me with many options in a timely manner. He was always responsive to my requests and respectful in his treatment of my house and ideas. In the end, i’m beyond pleased with his design which turned out bright, airy, and maximized the functionality of the space. Michael even walked me through the permit process, working with my contractor - and his rates were beyond fair. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Michael beyond exceeded our expectations. We found Michael through Houzz - after our builder's preferred architect came back with a very high price and initial designs that didn't align to what we had suggested. Michael was very reasonably priced for the work that he did. He wasn't the cheapest, but the quality per price was beyond anyone else. We were very price-sensitive, but Michael would have been my choice at any price. Michael's first design sketches were works of art. He must have shown us 10+ handpainted watercolor and ink sketches. They were beautiful and I want to frame them. My close friend (a Columbia and Princeton trained architect) was blown away by the quality of his sketches. My father, who develops houses in another city, was incredibly impressed. He draws them by hand. Whereas other architect's work often felt like they came out of a computer program, Michael's work felt like a work of art. Finally, Michael has both the ability to listen closely to his clients demands, but also guide them. We were originally planning a master bedroom on one side of the house - but he suggested to us why the other side made more sense. And he was right. We've already recommend Michael to other friends. What began as a boxy, plain, standard colonial, is now a beautiful Shingled Style home which includes a front porch, open plan family room with a large eat-in kitchen, 3 fireplaces (electric in master bedroom), and even a “dumb waiter” to transport mail etc. up to our office on the second floor. Mike was easy to work with. I had specific requirements for the pool house we were building five years after the pool and main house were already constructed so the pool house had to complement and fit into the existing program. Mike was able to integrate the various components and come up with a functional and aesthetically well designed structure. Although the pool house is now almost 10 years old, it looks timeless and is as beautiful now as it was when it was built.

The only reason I am not giving five stars is Mike didn't have a strong sense for how the scope of the project related to our desired budget, so we had to refine and revise our scope significantly quite a few times. To help with that, Mike recommended bringing in someone else who was better able to estimate the cost of the project when we needed it. We still went way over our intended budget, but that's certainly not on Mike! We are very happy with the end product.

Michael did an amazing job with our renovation. We have a house that was built in 1909 and he was able to work with us to maintain the character and the house and look like the addition was always there. We added an additional 1500 sq feet of living space which include adding a master bedroom, a family room and a mudroom he also added dormers on to the roof line that improved the balance of the house and a front porch and interesting window that look period appropriate. Michael LoBuglio was the architect for our in-ground pool project which included a 4 season cabana. Mike was involved in every aspect of the project, not only designing and over-seeing the building of the cabana, but ensuring that the cabana both inside and out blended with the style of our existing home and property. With the additional challenge of a small footprint, Mike came up with an efficient design which allowed us to have both a kitchen and full bath as well as a sizeable main sitting area. Mike worked closely with us to incorporate all our ideas with results that went far beyond our expectations! In his design, he also added the unique features of a cathedral ceiling with sky light in the sitting area, beautiful classic wood molding and wainscoting all in white, cabinetry for flat screen TV and gas fireplace, with full glass doors and plenty of windows creating a light and airy feeling to the space. We have had a wonderful experience working with Michael LoBuglio on the renovation of a home we are purchasing in Westport. Michael's initial proposal was reasonable for the size of the renovation we were contemplating but he actually accomplished all the work substantially under budget which was a wonderful surprise for us. Michael has a terrific eye and within our first few meetings pointed out some relatively inexpensive changes we could make in our floor plan to dramatically transform and enlarge certain spaces. By way of example, he discovered otherwise dead space that works beautifully to create an accessible cabana bathroom for our pool and incorporated a hallway into a small bedroom to create a large play area for our kids. We also appreciated how quickly Michael was able to complete the work and his willingness to meet on the weekends when it was most convenient for us to get together for a few hours. We hired Mike Lobuglio as the architect for the house we built (or is in the final stages of construction, rather) in Darien, CT. Our house was a tear-down, and we had a limited area that we could situate our new house on due to wetlands. The size of the house would have been an issue if Mike hadn't been as creative as he was in designing a house that would give us everything we wanted while still being able to adhere to the restrictions placed on how/where we could situate the house. Mike's attention to detail is incredible, and he is meticulous in his design. I discovered Mike after visiting a friend who had renovated her house, and the architecture so impressed me that I called him that very day! After meeting with him (after having met with a variety of architects beforehand) both my husband and I knew almost instantly that he was the right guy for the job. He is a warm, easy going, extremely likeable person, and someone that is so pleasant to work with. He really listened to everything that we told him, and continued to do so throughout the entire process. Whenever he thought an idea of ours might not be the best choice, he was very gentle and respectful about sharing alternative ideas that he had. He took our thoughts into consideration, but was not shy with offering his opinion on making our original ideas even better. He is also creative. For example, he converted our former kitchen into a mudroom and made a very efficient use of the space. His design of the family room and new kitchen was excellent, with a lot of natural light and nice symmetry. He was also engaged in the project after we received his designs, and was onsite a few times to oversee progress and answer the builder's questions. All in all, we are very happy with Mike's work and would recommend him to others (we already have).

Mike LoBuglio designed an addition to our 1920 Bungalow in Wilton Connecticut. The outside was so seamless that you could not tell where the addition began and the original house ended. He matched all the details of the Period. On the interior he created an open plan concept which included a kitchen, breakfast and sitting areas with a gas fireplace. The addition was staggered so that we have access from the sitting area to our front porch. Over the kitchen he designed a beautiful Master suite. Below the kitchen he created a finished playroom for our kids. The design was everything we could imagine and more. We absolutely love our new addition. Mike is a very talented architect. He is reliable, accommodating and a joy to work with. I would highly recommend him for any job.

Michael designed our new house after severe damage from Hurricane Irene in late August 2011. He did an excellent job for us. He listened to our ideas and concerns and was patient with our changes. He always made himself available to us as well as to our engineer and builder. He worked efficiently and his costs were not inflated. My husband and I would highly recommend him.
