We are a father and son architectural firm specializing in custom residential designs that embody the unique aspects of their location and the individual character of those who own them.
Since 1979 our office has specialized in the design of significant custom homes, remodelings, and additions. Together with selected outside consultants, we are able to provide the design and enable the construction of unique homes, furnishings, light fixtures, and landscaping.
The extent of our participation in any project is tailored to each client’s individual requests. We can dedicate a high degree of service to those concerned with the quality of design and investment in their homes. If desired we are prepared to oversee residential projects from conception to completion, with a minimal time requirement on the part of the owner.
Based in northeast Ohio, we have worked extensively in the Cleveland / Chagrin Valley area and at The Greenbrier Sporting Club in West Virginia. Other projects have been designed for Florida, Hawaii, New York, Pennsylvania, and Wyoming. We work in all historic and contemporary styles and prefer to remain a small firm specializing in architecturally significant and challenging residential designs.

We have worked with Richard on 4 projects and is our "go to" person for style, design, and efficiency. He is a great problem solver and always adds a few fabulous surprises.
We have done four projects with him- a 8500 sq. ft. house, a re-model of an existing house, a Conservatory and a restaurant. Dick has the versatility required to complete all of these jobs beautifully.

Kawalek Architects (KA) designed and built a unique two family vacation home that not only was an instant show stopper, but ultimately was sold without listing. From the beginning they worked within budget. They started by listening and molding the owners design ideas to meet budget goals and then offered suggestions to further improve the concepts and address cost constraints. KA works incredibly well with the ARB (feedback from several ARB's has reinforced this strength) which greatly reduced rework and ego arguments. The project was completed on time and under budget for a reason -- KA carefully helped to coordinate the work of builders, various trades people, interior designers, landscapers and the owners to avoid inefficiencies. When the project was completed all trades and stakeholders agreed they would like to work together on another project. We have since engaged KA on several other small renovation projects and are currently working with them and the team on another vacation home.
