DBMC Design

After deciding to renovate my 32 yr. old kitchen, I contacted DBMC to help me decide what I needed. They were both professional and patient, as I changed my design decisions several times. I couldn't be happier with the result as it came in on time and on budget. This was one of the best home improvement projects I've experienced and I would highly recommend their services.

Thank goodness we hired this team. We hired DBMC to design a whole-house renovation in Washington, DC. They provided architectural drawings, construction documents, and oversaw part of construction. The house was built in 1915 and we knew we wanted something very modern. This involved gutting the house and removing a structural wall. I am evaluating DBMC Design on 1) Competency 2) Responsiveness, and 3) Overall Quality. 1) Competency: From our first conversation, it was clear that they are an experienced and savvy group. We worked with David and Matthew. Each took time to understand the scope of our project, our vision, and the variables that might accompany renovating a 100+ year old house. They worked with equally competent Structural, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers. It was a good team, and this can be illustrated in that the permitting office requested only one change/clarification from the submitted drawings which otherwise sailed through that dreaded office. We have heard horror stories from others who wait several weeks or months for permits. We got ours in less than a week after first submission. 2) Responsiveness: Emails are usually returned within minutes, but never longer than a day. Phones are answered, and they even respond with immediacy to texts. This was extremely helpful when we needed to make fast decisions, even after their design was complete. When demolition revealed an unforeseen condition one afternoon, David, one of the principals, came to the job site by 10am the next day to assess. Within a day, we had an actionable plan, having involved his engineer partner, and the project stayed on track. This is a small firm, and they appear to be very agile. 3) Quality: We could not be happier with the finished project. The new home is beautiful and functions the way that we live. We believe they made good suggestions along the way to help us find cost-effective solutions without compromising our vision. In short. This firm "gets it." They're good, honorable people. They know what they're doing. They're very skilled at architectural design, and problem solving. We could not have asked for more and would recommend them without hesitation.
