Remodeling design specialist. I started my firm in 1977, over 40 years ago. I have designed and written for Better Homes and Gardens magazine, and multiple other national home magazines. I became a syndicated newspaper columnist in 1997 and continue to produce the Creating Spaces column for several newspapers such as The Buffalo News and The Saint Paul Pioneer Press. My focus is solely on remodeling design and I do conceptual design in a single session for a flat fee, helping homeowners with design and direction and get started on realizing their dream. Unlike other architects who focus on commercial projects, Marcia Lyon specializes in residential projects only, providing impressive remodeling designs utilize the space you have to the maximum. She offers an exceptional consulting service to provide homeowners what they need — design and direction. Marcia Lyon knows just what you need to get your remodeling project going. This is the service you need BEFORE you call a contractor. I am unique in this area because I charge an affordable flat fee for conceptual design. It is a single session in which we create the remodeling plan together. I leave the homeowners with 'before' and 'after' floor plans that they can get competitive bids from. I provide vital information about finding and working with remodeling contractors. By the end of our meeting, you will have Before and After drawings, ideas on materials and products, and a set direction to find the contractors to get competitive bids. My approach is to save you construction $$$ by solving the problems in clear, easy ways that contractors can understand. If not, I’m available by phone to clear up contractor’s issues. I am available to people who are not in my area via STUDIO CONSULTATIONS. This can happen if you are out of my regular travel area. You must have ¼” scaled floor plans of your existing home. You send that to me, along with your priority lists and photos (which can be sent electronically). I’ll work on your project before we meet on Skype to solve your problems together. This is a very effective way to design your remodeling when we are not in the same state. If you want to meet in person for a consultation, and I’m not in your area, it is possible for me to travel to your area provided you pay my expenses. If you know someone else that would benefit by a personal consultation, the travel expenses can be split by two, or more.
