Allan and I worked together with my interior designer to create my new city home after I sold my suburban home years ago. It was a huge change in my life and one in which Allan helped smooth the transition. His insightful questions and attention to detail throughout the design and construction periods of the remodeling resulting in not only an elegant and comfortable residence for me but also a deep friendship that continues to this day.

Our home is a 1920's English Tudor style residence that needed the kitchen and master bedroom and bathroom updated, while maintaining the character and interior details we love about our home. Allan was very meticulous and respectful of our requirements. He made suggestions that transformed the layout of our dated kitchen into a beautiful and serviceable space for food preparation and entertaining. He created a wall specifically for one art piece that became a focal point in our kitchen. Our master bedroom suite renovation included the addition of a second floor area over our first floor sun room to achieve a desperately needed and generous walk-in closet. Allan creatively reversed the locations of the existing master bathroom and small dressing room, achieving the access needed to the new closet, as well as a much more generous and accommodating bathroom. It has now been over 25 years and we are still enjoying the improvements and design that Allan created for us. We are total fans and have recommended Allan to friends and family members who have also worked with him.

Allan and I explored new kitchen layouts for my city condominium apartment. I found him to be a patient and careful listener who then presented different approaches and design ideas for my consideration. We discussed pros and cons for various solutions concerning storage, appliance locations, functionality and aesthetics that were specific to my personal preferences. I found Allan's assistance and insights to be helpful. Our builder/developer provided us with a new house that has a wonderful plan and interior finishes. However, we were disappointed with the exterior appearance, which was a white box that had no character, charm, or street appeal. We retained Allan Grant to design a welcoming and appealing facade that would fit in with the other homes in our neighborhood. Allan presented several front exterior studies, which we discussed together and refined until we achieved the aesthetic and function we wanted. Not only are we now proud of the exterior of our home, with its front columned entry porch, shuttered window, and French door railings, but our neighbors have not stopped complimenting us on the dramatic improvement. Allan is a creative architect who is easy to work with and who enjoys sharing his talents for the benefit of his clients.

Allan has been a pleasure to work with on all our projects, which include a full kitchen remodeling, several bathroom remodelings, converting one bedroom into a paneled office and another into an exercise room with the occasional guest accommodations, the master bedroom suite remodeling, and the most recent powder room remodeling. Our kitchen had been a completely enclosed space that we wanted opened to the adjacent dining room for a view of the park across from our home. Allan’s suggestion to convert our formal dining room space into a highly functional and versatile “family center” that incorporated our new kitchen, a sitting area, built-in storage with panel TV and display, and an expandable dining table, created a new way for us to live in our home that we thoroughly enjoy. The unusual challenge which we presented to Allan was that all our projects had to be started and completed, including finish painting, while we were traveling away from home. Allan was able to organize and coordinate our projects with the contractors he recommended so that each project was completed within our established time frames. Allan is a highly detailed, organized, and talented architect, who listens carefully to us, has great insights and suggestions for our consideration, and whose expertise in the field of interior design, as well as architecture, has benefited us not only with architectural details but also with furniture and art placement, color and material selections, and great lighting. I cannot imagine working with any other architect for planning any remodeling work in my home.

Allan Grant is thorough and detailed. He produces intensely practical design ideas and pays a great deal of attention to power outlets, lighting, appliances and traffic patterns. An added bonus with Allan is that he actually seems to ENJOY color selection, furniture layouts and selection of textures. It's a bit like having a back up to an interior designer, but one who actually understands structure too! His plans are sufficiently detailed that actual costs have never, in my experience, overrun because of unexpected costs. He takes feedback well and holds constructive discussion with clients on potential changes to plans. He works extremely well with contractors. Projects have ranged from $50,000 to nearly $500,000 in value.
