Laurie Stewart’s approach to designing a home begins with crafting a simple, gracious and practical floor plan, particular to the site and the needs of the client. The floor plan is paramount and must flow well, before refinements and embellishments are added. Each home plan is conceived, drawn and detailed by hand prior to applying computer drafting software. We believe this traditional artisan process adds extra care and quality to the finished result. To date, more than 400 homes have been built according to Laurie’s plans. Plans incorporate architectural styles including Arts & Crafts bungalows, Craftsman four-squares, farmhouses, and contemporary homes. All fit well with the Pacific Northwest aesthetic. With a background in fine arts, each of Laurie’s plans translates into a beautiful home well suited to the inhabitants’ lifestyle. Each home is comfortable to live in, aesthetically pleasing and designed to be flexible, attractive and supportive of your life. Pragmatic details are carefully considered and ease the work of daily life: ensuring adequate storage, comfortable kitchen work triangles and thought for the distance you’ll be carrying laundry and groceries. Each home is designed to utilize standard material dimensions and regular joist and rafter layouts. This translates to reduced need for onsite cutting, lower labor costs, and less waste and material usage. You might decide to invest these savings into energy efficient appliances or heating systems, increased insulation, or solar or wastewater systems.
