I chose Valley Design for my kitchen renovation and when it was completed, I was very proud of myself for choosing the right contractor. John Martin and his staff worked very patiently with me. With all my numerous design changes and concerns, I was always assured with guidance. When the project started, John was there with his crew working by guiding them as well as my building superintendent, through the plans. I have just begun the design phase of my next renovation project with John Martin and his team.

The kitchen looks good, but Valley 'forgot' to add tax to the price estimate and charged several thousands of dollars of unexpected extra fees and expenses at the end of the project. Would not use again.

Don't waste your time or money here! We looked at several area contractors for our bathroom remodel (new tub, sink, toilet, floor, all tile work). Most came out and gave us only generic verbal estimates that varied widely, so we were nicely surprised when John Martin gave a detailed written estimate. He talked knowledgably in the showroom, and despite a pretty significant mark-up on the individual components we decided to go with him in an effort to keep our job all in one place. Unfortunately, our positive experience ended there. Our bathroom remodel ended up taking over 10 months, including 3 months that we had to stay in area hotels and 2 more when we could use only the bathtub and not the full shower. Some of the delay was understandable to us as it meant coordinating work with inspections, etc. but a lot of the delay was post-inspection work with too many days and weeks when no workers showed up or John pulled them to work on other jobs. When they were there, the workers were unsupervised, unfocused, and too frequently just left a mess at the end of the day. There was no consistency to the effort and as a result the quality of the work suffered and was mediocre at best. Most troubling was John’s attitude throughout, as he had difficulty working with our building representatives, with city inspectors, and ultimately with us. Unreturned texts, phone calls and emails were the norm, and he was always a distracted listener so issues had to be brought up repeatedly before they were resolved. Worst of all, we found him to be outright dishonest over several issues when he chose to fabricate lies instead of just accepting responsibility and making something right. We ultimately negotiated a substantial discount to our final bill to accommodate the mediocre work.

STAY AWAY, BEWARE! What started off well ended up disastrous! John was straightforward in the beginning detailing purchase transactions. The problem started with the errors in our custom kitchen and the labor he charged to fix the errors and charges for work that wasn't performed. Kitchen plans were signed off on which when asked why the kitchen didn't arrive as agreed, he said "we told him last minute to change it that way." Clearly we did not. Adding INSULT to injury he charged us 3 times ($20K) to correct these errors. The excessive charges also included labor for work that he did not perform. John was NOT on the job site, while I was, along with my supervisor recording work completed on a daily basis. He is no longer allowed in our building. Homeowners have no legal leg to stand on ( contractors can place liens while HO has to take them to court) and can only warn others through these reviews. STAY AWAY.

John and his team did a great job for us with a three apartment, down to the studs and move everything then build new, combination. They did planning, demolition, debris removal, construction, and decoration. The project involved moving walls, electricity, water and plumbing. JM was very flexible and intelligently overcame all the surprises that appeared in this large jproject. The job took almost a year and we're very happy with the excellent results! JM had a can-do attitude and his experience and contacts were crucial to getting the job done quickly and efficiently. We recommend him!

My family and I live on Long Island in a 1970's split level home.. We have lived here for over 20 years. When we first moved in, we immediately remodeled the kitchen with inexpensive but nice cabinets and appliances. We kept the layout the same. Over the years as our family grew we came to realize how inefficient the floor layout of our kitchen, (which was tiny) living room and dining room were. Friends of ours recently remodeled their home, using Valley Design and we admired the craftmanship and overall design of their remodel. After meeting with John Martin and his design team, we agreed to take the plunge and begin the remodel which would ultimately change the way we live in our home! The results we spectacular, we now have an open concept floor plan which has made entertaining much more enjoyable. I no longer have everyone crammed in my kitchen while I am trying to prepare dinner! John Martin made me love living in my home again. His passion and expertise in his field is extraordinary! I have recommended Valley Design to many of my friends! In fact, a neighbor of mine loved my layout and overall design so much that she asked me if she could copy it in her kitchen!

I have used Valley design for many minor projects in the past. Last summer I had them design a complete kitchen remodel. Valley Design Center designed and installed my kitchen and it came out better than I could ever imagine. They are the greatest design company ever and I would highly recommend them. I can't wait to start my next project with them!!!!

Valley Design Center renovated our master bathroom in a pre-war NYC apartment. From the start, I found John Martin, our contractor, extremely knowledgeable, willing to listen and creative. He presented a detailed estimate that included everything and consequently we had no surprises. His team of workers were wonderful-polite, respectful, neat and talented. We deconstructed our bathroom, rebuilt it and expanded and replaced the bathroom doorway. The job entailed taking out everything, included floor, fixtures, replacing a wall and waterproofing the area. We changed the placement of the fixtures and replumbed and rewired for lighting. We put in a doorless shower and made the space handicap accessible. John was sensitive to our budget restraints and suggested less expensive alternatives without sacrificing quality. Although living through renovation and construction is no walk in the park, John and his team made it as pleasant as possible. I would highly recommend Valley Design Center and hire him again, without a doubt.
