Powell Painting & Remodeling

We hired Gary Powell to complete an outdoor kitchen and 10’x12’ shed. We agreed to pay Mr. Powell half upfront to cover the cost of material. The other half would be paid upon completion of the project. Mr. Powell said he would have a team working on both the shed and kitchen in parallel, and that it wouldn’t take any longer than two weeks. After two months, the project was less than half complete, as Mr. Powell had only one worker working a few hours a week. Despite several attempts from both myself and his solo worker to have Mr. Powell bring in more help, and Mr. Powell agreeing to do so, it never materialized. To make matters worse, Mr. Powell started asking for more money. When we refused to pay him without proof that he had used up the entire down payment on our project, he stopped all communication with both myself and his worker. We have since learned the worker he hired used YouTube for help, as he had no training in the job he was doing. His worker told us Mr. Powell had brought him on to assist and paint, not to construct an entire kitchen and shed. We had to hire someone else to re-do the prior work and to complete the project, which cost us quite a bit more money than the original quote we had received from Mr. Powell. We have not been able to reach Mr. Powell through a BBB complaint, small claims court, or service of process. Stay away from doing business with Mr. Gary Powell (Powell Painting and Remodeling), as he will take your money and not follow through with his commitments. Gary Powell is NOT honest, ethical, or forthright in his dealings, nor will he take ownership of assigned duties and responsibilities, or put quality at the highest priority, all things his website claims.
