Mike Dugan and his team COMPLETELY changed the look of our dated and unattractive 1980’s kitchen. This was mainly a redooring/refacing project. Some custom cabinetry added to accommodate reconfiguration of appliances; added large drawers to island. They also refaced a small bathroom vanity cabinet for us. KTU also coordinated electrician, countertop, and flooring services.
A+ Top notch service and overall experience.
It’s been a real pleasure to work with Mike Dugan and his team. From the first visit through to the finishing touches, they provided outstanding service with a smile and a fabulous result for a reasonable price. I am SO happy we decided to go with KTU South Shore.
This project was a big deal for us and I was nervous about choosing someone I’d later regret hiring. If you’re serious enough about your own project to be reading Angie’s List reviews, you’ve probably given some thought to all the glitches (major and minor) that you might encounter on the road to kitchen fabulosity. I am happy and a little surprised to say that we encountered none of this. It’s one thing to have your “expectations” exceeded; our experience with Mike & his team exceeded our hopes! (My expectations and hopes weren’t exactly low after reading so many enthusiastic reviews, either.) Seriously: my “best case scenario” was blown away.
I wholeheartedly agree with many of the positive comments that other reviewers have posted, and I’ll try not to be too repetitive. (BTW – only truly satisfied customers would take the time to write such detailed reviews.)
Mike Dugan/KTU is a total rock star because:
· No pressure! You will not be sold something that you don’t want to buy; you will not be pressured to exceed your budget; you will not be rushed into making decisions.
· He takes the time YOU need to come up with a plan. In home consultations and brainstorming sessions spanned several hours. Mike & Jesse listened to our ideas and our doubts, they helped us think through all the options, they worked with us until we were satisfied that we had come up with the best plan for our taste, our budget, and our home.
· On the spot estimates. Once we had decided on the type of door we were going to use, Mike was able to give us a detailed breakdown of what our redooring project would cost before leaving our house. And that’s the price. How straightforward is that?
· Great design ideas. We had some very basic ideas and a budget. Knowing that we had some serious shortcomings as kitchen designers, we were open to new ideas and suggestions. Mike provided some really great ideas that were incorporated into the final product and help make our kitchen cooler than we ever imagined. (Note that his ideas were within budget, NOT “hey these doors would look amazing in your space but they cost twice as much…..”)
· He turned my “oh I LOVE those cabinets, but they’re too modern/European for our space” into an actual element in our kitchen! AND my husband &I both agree that we LOVE the result! When we visited Mike’s showroom to confirm our final door selection, I saw a couple of super stylish cabinets that he had set up for another client. I couldn’t take my eyes off of them. They had a textured, modern look that really appealed to me. My husband liked them too, but dismissed them as too taste-specific (concerned about possible sale of house in the future). Besides, we had the design all worked out and NOW you want to totally change it? No way. I let Mike know how much I LOVED the look of the cabinets, but alas, realistically we would not be making any “risky” changes. Well, Mike was listening. And he was thinking. The next time he came over to show us how our door panel selection would look in our actual kitchen, he brought a sample of the panel style I had liked so much at the showroom. Mike’s idea was to reface the island in a color of that door that coordinated with the glaze we had chosen for the more traditional white panel we initially planned on using for everything. GENIUS! (The two styles seem very different but they work together brilliantly, so, yes, GENIUS) AND my husband and I both agreed (that never happens) without any further “negotiation” or convincing. Mike is the KITCHEN-WHISPERER!
· KTU’s huge selection of designs across a range of price points makes it possible for this to happen while staying in budget.
· Mike is a straightforward professional who respects your budget and whatever other constraints you need to work within. If the exotic hardwood isn’t in your budget, Mike won’t try to “tempt” you with it.
· Quality materials & workmanship.
· Terrific value for your money.
· He’s a good guitar player too, which rounds out the kitchen rock star package!
(Note that price above is what we spent for the KTU cabinetry work. If you're budget-conscious, be aware that it's easy for the costs of other elements of your project to add up.) For our project, we used the electrician, tile person, countertop provider and floor refinishers recommended by Mike. They were all very professional and provided high quality services and products at reasonable prices. Our new kitchen is awesome!
