What would you like it to feel like? What would you like it to say? Only when we have achieved clarity around these questions can the piece begin to grow. From there, lumber is selected based on the qualities of locally sourced woods. Do you seek the classic, stoic strength of Oak, or the playfulness of bright Ash? Will the deep, marble texture of Walnut draw the eye in, or would the easy grace of Maple suit the work better? Grenfell Woodcraft understands not just the physical qualities of the woods, but the personalities of the trees. Design and construction are approached with old-world strength and durability in mind. All joinery is showcased in the final pieces, leaving the beautiful jointery clearly visible. Hand-rubbed finishes are the last step. The wood is contextualized and honored with infused oil-and-wax finishes which both protect the piece and evoke the healing qualities of the herbs. All finishes are steeped over heat for at least 48 hours to fully set the properties of the plants. This step is a great opportunity for you to deeply personalize a piece.
