(Jan 19, 2012):
I am very surprised, this is the first time I had something like this happen in the 20 years I have been in business. Whenever my customers have any issue with my work they notify me and I have it fixed promptly. I believe in the full satisfaction of all my customers and I will be glad to have this settled in a professional manner.
The shelves that my customers requested came from an outside source. They were not too complex in their design so I agreed to take on the project. The price on the website for just the shelves came out to 30% more than what I charged for the complete project; which included the shelves, delivery, and three days of installation. The shelves that I installed also had about twice the amount of wood than the original design required. This is because the original design did not have wood panels underneath each shelf to cover the unwanted view of screws that held up the shelves. When I arrived to the house to offer an estimate and analyze the work area, I explained that shelves like these will not be able to support weight unless they fit perfectly snug from wall to wall. Knowing this, I also advised them that it would be near impossible for me to avoid damaging the painted drywall. I suggested to them the idea of placing vertical panels that ran along the left and right side of the shelves in order to protect the drywall. I also informed them that their wall was not perfectly straight so an 11' continuous shelf would be straighter than the wall, which is why the seems appear uneven. The customers then came to an agreement that they do not want the vertical panels and do not mind because they would have the wall repaired when installation was complete. While installing the shelves, I went about the process carefully and avoided as much damage as possible. After installing the shelves, the customers contacted me to repair a few areas on the shelves that slipped my eye and needed touching up. I then told them that I would arrive shortly. Upon arrival, the customers pointed out everything that they were not satisfied with and I made sure it was all repaired; although, nothing was mentioned about the drywall. If I had known of this issue I would have most definitely made some arrangements to make sure the issue was resolved. I will be glad to arrange an appointment with a professional painting company to repair the customers drywall free of charge in hopes to possible resolve this issue and satisfy the customer.
