Trinity Design/Build

We worked with Trinity Design/Build to restore our 1920 cottage in Lakewood. They were incredibly patient with us as we navigated our first construction project, and we would recommend them for your historic preservation and renovation needs. They designed a reconfiguration of our floor plan that changed the house from a 3/2 to a 3/2.5 while adding on a primary suite. They fixed foundation issues, updated plumbing, updated electrical, performed efficiency upgrades, and readied our home for its next 100 years. Most importantly, they effectively blended the new portions of the home with the historic portions by matching trim, siding, and windows. They were great stewards of our budget and kept an accurate timeline. Their communication was outstanding. They used technology to make it easy to coordinate our selections and to keep us informed of our schedule. They minimized waste and repurposed materials to keep our environmental impact low. Thank you Trinity for our new (old) home!

My husband and I were displaced from our home due to a house fire. We met with several contractors in the area, but had not received any follow-up for at least a month. Trinity Design Build came to give an estimate and within a day had a plan to get us back in our house. While they had not worked specifically on fire rebuilds, they took on our project out of a passion for restoring historical houses (our place was built in 1920). Lee Kane and Ryan Stokes were proficient, helpful, honest, and an absolute pleasure to work with. Lee strikes a perfect balance between giving the owner design freedom and offering guidance and suggestions. The rebuild work was top notch and we are incredibly grateful to be back in our home. We especially appreciated their use of a spreadsheet that laid out all of the decisions that needed to be made, along with a timeframe. They helped us bring our vision to life, while giving sound advice on how to ensure our updates fit with the time period of the home. The communication was thorough, the quality of work was excellent, and our expectations were met and exceeded. Thank you TDB for the fantastic job and positive experience!

We contracted with Trinity Design/Build for two major renovations to our home. The first (2018) was to create a more open floor plan by removing the fireplace and chimney from our 2 story house, thus creating an opening between the formal living room and the family room. The second and most recent (2020) was to add a large sunroom to the back of the house. Both these projects took months to accomplish. We could not have been more pleased with our decision to select Trinity for the work. The attitude, knowledge and communication skills of the project manager and of the foreman were outstanding and key to success of these projects. The subcontractors that they selected were excellent, and respectful of our home and of the neighbors as they performed their work. Both projects were completed within schedule and cost (another key to a successful project!), and with the highest quality. Outstanding folks to work with! While we do not have another major project on the horizon, selecting Trinity for the job would be a foregone conclusion.

We loved working with Trinity. On our initial call when I was trying to choose which contractor to work with, Lee said that the part of their business he’s most proud of is the integrity of the people on his team. And that really proved to be true throughout the process. Whenever anything came up, they handled it quickly and calmly. When we were doing walkthroughs at various stages, they had a really high standard and would point out things that could be improved, even if I didn’t notice them. They never cut corners. Whenever I came to them with (what I thought were) kind of crazy requests or ideas, they always listened to them and took them seriously. On top of the integrity of the people on the team, the quality of their work was also really high. Since the house was finished, we’ve had several people who know construction walk through and say things like, “Wow, you must have had a really great contractor” or just point out the attention to detail that was obviously paid throughout the house. PLUS, everything was on schedule, on budget, and all very organized and transparent, too. I couldn’t recommend Trinity highly enough!

We're so happy we had the opportunity to work with Trinity Design/Build. Trinity was on time, on budget, did beautiful work, and was a pleasure to work with. Really, what more do you want? We added a two-story, modern addition to our traditional 1930s cottage, taking our total square footage from 1,350 sq ft to 2,200 sq ft. We were a bit nervous about finding a contractor that specialized in restoration AND modern design. But from our first meeting with Lee and Jody, we felt like they understood perfectly what we were envisioning and had experience with projects like ours. We felt more on the same page with Trinity than with any of the other contractors we met. We loved working with Jody and were grateful to have a licensed architect for a project of this scale. The final plans beautifully captured everything we discussed through three rounds of design (all covered under the original design fee). The close communication between Jody and our project manager, Steven, made the transition to the build phase seamless and must have helped with putting together an accurate construction budget because Steven was right on the money--we even came in a little under budget. Steven and our site supervisor, Ben, were fast to respond whenever we had questions. We benefitted from their expertise when it came to finding the right sub-contractors and making sure everything was done on schedule and honestly, just the way we wanted it. Going in, I thought the hardest part might be trusting someone else to manage the details of something as important to us as our home. But the respect Trinity had for our project and for us as people, their dedication to doing quality work, and their readiness to check in with us when important questions came up made it easier than expected to just step back and get the benefit of their expertise. Can't recommend Trinity highly enough!!

We highly recommend Trinity Design/Build! Lee, Jody, Steven, and Mike were a fantastic team - we truly enjoyed working with them on our custom new construction home. From start to finish, the folks at Trinity were transparent, straightforward, professional, flexible, and communicative. We have a gorgeous home that fits the neighborhood's character and managed to come in UNDER budget! We were engaged and involved in the decision making process and always felt like we received honest guidance from our Trinity team.

We had decided to renovation a single story house and had preliminary conversations with a number of contractors. TDB had a reasonable estimate and a timetable that would get us into the house by the time we needed to move. Lee Kane impressed us with his detailed planning, an online way to stay updated on the progress of the project, and his willingness to meet with us weekly to review questions both we and he had. The project came in on the budget he forecasted and almost perfectly on the schedule he outlined. We are now doing the punch list and he is attentive to getting the little things finished. Throughout the project Lee and David were very responsive and courteous in answering our numerous questions and in fixing any problems.

We recently completed a 6-month project to design and build an addition to our 1920s bungalow, while reconfiguring a section of the existing structure and upfitting almost everything else. Other reviewers echo our thoughts exactly: we were prepared for a difficult experience, but at every step the Trinity team was professional, conscientious, detail-oriented, trustworthy and approachable. They were truly a joy to work with and we’d heartily recommend them to anyone. There are a couple of things I’d like to highlight: First, our house has been our longtime home, and it has a lot of history beyond our own. Respecting the character of the house meant a lot to us; Jody, Lee and everyone who worked on our project seemed on board with this before we mentioned it. They brought a level of craftsmanship to both the design and construction phases that I believe would be hard to find elsewhere. Next, we could tell that Trinity’s cost and time estimation practices benefit from their experience (especially their experience with older homes); they were conservative in areas where we were most likely to encounter surprises, which proved essential for keeping our expectations in line with reality. They were able to complete our project ahead of schedule (!) and on budget. Finally, I’m not sure you could find a construction team more committed to cleanliness: we visited our job site nearly every day and saw first-hand how regularly trash was cleared, surfaces were swept clean, and materials were organized. I’m positive this contributed to the timeliness and overall success of our project. In summary, 5/5!

I enjoyed working with TDB and felt that my project had a good outcome. Mine was a renovation project on a 1950's home with several additions. The design process was thorough and I felt that I had adequate time to review the plans and was offered different options on changing the layout of the house. The designers were adequately tuned in to the construction process which I think helps avoid surprises during the construction phase. The house underwent an approximate 75% gut renovation and there were typical problems we only discovered during demolition (water damage, rot, termites). These problems increased the cost of the project but not much could have been done to prevent the problem. Project supervisor stressed early selection of finishes, fixtures, appliances, paint colors, etc. so that I didn't feel pressured to make decisions at the last minute. Making all these selections was not a fun process at times, but at least I wasn't making them under the gun. I feel that TDB has a good group of subcontractors that they use regularly and they have a good working relationship with their subs. Minimal to non-existent bickering or animosity between teams onsite. I felt that site supervisor was up to date on day to day work and any problems and was great at communicating plans and dealing with unexpected problems. When mistakes were made and TDB was at fault, they readily agreed to fix the problem and cover the costs or have their subs cover the cost. Overall, I had great communications with my contacts on the project. Perhaps not the least expensive company, but they produce a great product. I would use them again without hesitation on any future renovations.

Lee Kane and his team at Trinity Design Build are detail-oriented professionals who take great pride in their projects. They consistently make customer satisfaction, job site cleanliness, and finish quality a top priority. We appreciate their ability to maintain a strict schedule and always keep us up to date on changes. In our experience, Trinity Design Build has proven itself as one of the top contractors in the triangle.

From start to finish we had a great experience with this company. I am very happy with the attention to detail, the communication, and the end product. I highly recommend this form for large renovation projects.
