Quatrefoil delivered an incredible renovation of our 1990s modern house over the past year. Every member of the team was thoughtful and conscientious. Quatrefoil helped us to align our budget with our architect's plan, offered great solutions whenever we encountered a problem, and provided a consistently beautiful level of finish. Kathryn and Mike are a great team; they appreciated our house for its unique qualities while helping us remedy existing issues, both those we anticipated and those we discovered as the walls came off! Jason was a fantastic project super; he is good-humored but also incredibly diligent and creative. We always felt confident that he was on top of the schedule, had an eye out for the smallest details, and was able to jump in and problem-solve anything unexpected we encountered. The team at Quatrefoil did an amazing job in building out and completing our basement for us over the past year. They helped from the design through the permitting and construction. It is as if we have a whole new house under our original one. They were a pleasure to work with. Their staff was courteous, respectful, knowledgeable and helpful. They treated our space as if it was their own. You could tell that everyone cared about their work product and making sure that we were happy with the finished product. They were a pleasure and worth every penny.

I LOVED working with this EXCELLENT group. The husband and wife team really cared and made our home design project feel like it was their own home design project. They had great ideas, excellent communication, brought forward a logical strategy for the work, and importantly were there when problems arose with a sub-contractor and made sure to step in to fix them. They were a real partner and produced fantastic results. Lauren who helped with the design work was brilliant and has such an eye for color and where things should go in a home. She is creative and really knew the best products for our space from the thousands of options she has researched online and her own extensive knowledge. Jake was an incredible builder and can create objects out of nothing with his hands (walls! deck! stairs!) and it is incredible to see a skilled craftsman create. I feel like it is an ancient skill that has been lost, but Quatrefoil has kept that spirit alive in today’s world and brings that to their projects. I highly recommend and would use them again in the future.

I worked with quatrefoil on a wonderful project in upper NY. They were very organized and very professional throughout the entirety of the project. When planning for the renovation during COVID of a 1920s house, the idea of hiring an architect-contractor duo was very appealing. Kathryn and Mike turned out to be a great choice. They and the excellent team at Quatrefoil delivered splendid results, including a stunning new kitchen and three beautifully renovated bathrooms. In addition to creating and smoothly executing strong design concepts, Quatrefoil supervised and coordinated a talented group of professionals to help modernize the house while keeping its 1920s character intact. We are very happy with the finished product and grateful to everyone at Quatrefoil for their expertise and dedication in bringing it about. Quatrefoil built my modern house in Staatsburg, NY. Building a house from scratch is a journey and having Quatrefoil on that journey has been a huge positive. Their attention to detail and quality of workmanship is superb, as well as their care and concern with my house project was meticulous to a fault. Having a great design plan with an architect who lives in the Pacific Northwest it was invaluable to have them work on this project. I cannot say enough amazing things about Quatrefoil and its owners, Kathryn and Mike Whitman. They are the architect-builder dream team. Our family would be unlikely to undertake a gut renovation of our kitchen and two bathrooms simultaneously - during a pandemic no less - without the guidance, expertise and support of Mike, Kathryn and the Quatrefoil team. From design to demolition and construction, they have safely and expertly stewarded the renovation process while patiently adapting to changing needs and ideas as the project unfolded. Moreover, beyond offering deep knowledge of all things design and build, Quatrefoil offers a responsible, respectful and thoughtful team of carpenters and tradespeople that facilitate the entire process and keep work moving forward swiftly and with fidelity to design.

This was the second large contract we did with Quatrefoil. They finished a 1200 sq ft. Basement and it looks like a soho loft! Full kitchen, gym, designer closet, full bath, living room and bedroom. Not only didn’t we hesitate to use them for this project but our expectations were exceeded. From the architect expertise to decorating ideas like using a glass door with wallpaper going down the stairwell- it all looks amazingly inviting- nothing like a dark basement! The workmanship is perfect- solid- to many, overbuilt. Every inch was utilized to maximize storage and need. You know those house guests who insist on taking off their shoes and you always tell them, “no, don’t bother”? Well that is what the Quatrefoil team is like. They insist- your home is treated like their home....they vacuum when they leave each day. Safety and healthy factors were their greatest importance. They climbed in and out of basement windows during covid to minimize exposer. Very tiny detail was addressed and finished. No hassle, on time, things were wouldn’t have even noticed. We can not recommend them enough-we wouldn’t hesitate and their crew is lovely, talented and hard working! They aren’t unskilled part timer guys picking up work on the side, who come and go, they are full time employees who care and bring their own talents to your home. Kathryn, Mike, and the team at Quatrefoil led the ground-up construction of our home. They are a team of very nice, high-integrity, and professional people that we like and trust very much. They exhibited high levels of skill, pride in their work, and true craftsmanship in building our home. Mike’s knowledge of the latest building science and his dedication to ‘getting it right’ was invaluable throughout the construction process, which involved meeting / exceeding Passive House standards. Kathryn’s design advice and combined knowledge of architecture and construction made our home look and feel better than we ever imagined. From the earliest stages of construction planning to an on-budget finish, it was a pleasure working with Quatrefoil. We are thrilled with the results of their work and highly recommend them.

Michael and Kathryn Whitman have done 22 bathrooms, a kitchen, and many odds and ends at our home in Staatsburg. The final part of their work for us was just completed and consisted of repairing a poorly and dangerously installed stairway railing. Before completing the stairway railing, They replaced counters, cabinets, reinstalled appliances, and installed recessed lighting. Their work was neat professional and completed when promised. We were never left waiting for a contractor to show up. Mike coordinated all the specialty work: plumbing, electrical, etc. very well. All of the folks that worked directly for him and worked at his request were polite, skilled, and flexible. Kathryn took my partner, who has many stronger opinions about decours than I do shopping for alternatives as well as bringing samples and catalogs for both of them to review. The bathroom rework was done in 2018. However, the quality was equally as good.

The team of Kathryn and Mike designed and built our church Sacristy which included built-in cabinetry, desk, electronics, replacement of falling ceiling, and heating system. They supervised the removal of all marble in the altar area, lay new mudset base in floors and walls, and reinstall the marble. Failing substructure holding up the sacristy floor and altar area was rebuilt or replaced with beams and steel posts. The quality of work both in design and construction was done at the highest level. They met our deadline and stayed within our budget.

We bought a run-down, leaky, uninhabitable house with a unique modern design we loved but had no idea if it was salvageable. It was a challenging project, not only because of the condition of the house but also due to our location in the woods, far from the road and on a steep hillside. Kathryn Whitman Architecture and Quatrefoil approached our project with enthusiasm and presented a design to renovate the existing house and construct a second floor addition that perfectly articulated our needs and wants. The new addition, built onto the roof of the existing house, has a complicated roof design that not many contractors would want to undertake, but Mike and his highly-skilled team did a beautiful, meticulous job. Kathryn and Mike make a great team. We relied heavily on Kathryn's design sense, expertise, and patience to guide us through an unusual project and on Mike's sense of detail and dedication to quality at every stage to execute our plans. They were helpful in suggesting affordable alternatives in instances where items came in over budget, all without sacrificing the integrity of the project. The subcontractors hired for our project brought an equal degree of quality and dedication. We are thrilled with the result and couldn't recommend Quatrefoil more highly.

Quatrefoil deftly managed a complete gut renovation of our bathroom from start to finish. They thoughtfully created a design that was aligned with our vision and executed the entire project with fidelity to the proposed plan.

Quatrefoil’s work is beautiful. Mike’s attention to detail implemented the design beyond what I had hoped for, and Kathryn gave me great advice to ensure that trim, hardware, color, etc. were appropriate for my historic 1840’s house. This was my first time undertaking such a large (for me) project and they were patient, helpful, and understanding. When you build an addition you spend a lot of time with the people who are doing the work, and everyone on the team was polite and interesting and so talented. They always arrived on time and consulted with me about each step of the process. They found historic hardware to match the existing doors in my house. At the end of every work day they left the site spotless. They even made a sign and posted it on my front door advising the team to make sure to keep my “small dog” inside. I absolutely love the addition they built on my house. I heartily recommend them.

We own a home that was built in the late 1700s. We were looking for someone to reno our kitchen/dining & bathroom areas, as well as adding a porch. From the moment we met with Mike and Kathryn, we felt like we had partnered with them to create the kitchen of our dreams. Throughout the process, they worked to make our vision a reality. The Quatrefoil people are so good at what they do that I want to share my experience of working with them. Architect/designer Kathryn Whitman and master builder Mike Whitman are bringing life back to a little old house that was in need of structural and restoration work, design and construction of space-sensitive features, and a whole lot of cute-ing up. To date, they have removed a homely enclosed front porch, uncovered and restored original board-and-batten siding, designed and built a period-appropriate hood over the front door, re-designed an interior staircase, and created a half bath, a closet, and bookshelves in limited space where none existed before. Recently Kathryn has designed a new kitchen / dining space that Mike and his crew will be installing. They will also be restoring board-and-batten siding on the back half of the house and installing new custom windows. The Whitmans are great communicators and brainstormers — full of excellent, well-thought-out ideas, and responsive to observations and questions. Their patience is commendable! Whether the focus is on planning or execution, they pay fastidious attention to detail and respect the historic elements of the house. By being well organized and efficiently prepared, they keep things moving along. I highly recommend the Quatrefoil team for their significant talents, their knowledge, their craftsmanship, and their work ethic. It’s a pleasure working with them.

Quatrefoil did an outstanding job on our three story addition and extensive renovation project on our Victorian. The combination of architect/designer and skilled contractor made for a really positive experience from start to finish. They brought a close attention to the period of the house while also listening to our desire to make it feel more modern and contemporary, They understood well what we were hoping to achieve and helped us to accomplish just that. Designer/architect Kathryn's precise eye, attention to detail and excellent taste helped guide us to making solid decisions that we continue to enjoy everyday. We enjoyed our time discussing built ins, cabinet color, paint color, furnishing and fabrics...the list goes on. Contractor/craftsman Mike is very knowledgeable, and thorough. His honest and thoughtful approach to choices and decisions were essential to the success of our project. He is a skilled carpenter and adept at organizing various workers. They are a pleasure to work with! Quatrefoil are great communicators always very responsive to any questions or concerns we had. They carefully reviewed with us our options and also brought in solid professionals to work on our house. Their team overall is easy to have around. They keep things tidy and orderly. We found them to be very helpful and thorough. We highly recommend them and subsequently have referred them to a number of friends and family in the area. Our project was a big undertaking and they made it feel predictable and organized.

Having recently moved and traded in a pool for our empty nest retreat we still wanted outdoor living space for our extended families and seasonal renters. Having used Quatrefoil before we decided nothing says welcome like a beautiful front porch! No sooner were the words out of my mouth when Kathryn's pencil began to sketch while Mike and his crew measured and marked electrical and sprinkler lines. One huge concern for my husband was that the porch be maintenance free. Quatrefoil assured us that with today's more modern products they could easily achieve a beautiful and quality looking product for us. Something that worked against them was the wet spring and a tight deadline yet they were able to complete our beautiful porch prior to our renters arrival as well as within budget! Not only did they assist us in designing a beautiful outdoor living space but thought of things such as a new front door, electrical outlets, lights, a ceiling fan, room for loungers, tables and chairs and a gardening sink. Even a beautiful porch swing was assembled and hung! Details that truly skirted the scope of the projects such as tree removal, sprinkler lines, the alarm system and reseeding were quickly and efficiently handled. Even the walk was redesigned and installed. Upon our return home from a business trip we were astounded by the change in curb appeal of our home. No detail was left unfinished. The house number, new cool doorbell and even the American Flag reflected their attention to not only larger structural details but also the smaller ones that meant the most! The subcontractors and employees of Quatrefoil treated our home and neighborhood with the utmost respect. Job done within the allotted timeframe and budget. We love our new and spacious porch! At the very least prior to starting a project, big or small, consult with Quatrefoil Inc. as the combination of both architectural and building expertise along with the use of modern technology far exceeded our expectations. We went into the process with some renovations in mind and ended up with them creating our dream home. Not one idea, grand or small was met with hesitation. And we had some far out ideas! The enthusiasm the Quatrefoil team approached our project with was without a doubt their best quality. From the tiniest detail to the Grandest ideas, everything was executed with precision and beauty. Truly not one detail was overlooked by the team and as a consumer this is important because many things were not even within our scope of knowledge. Quatrefoil did an outstanding job in building our new home, a modern single-family house! We literally could not have asked for a better builder for this project. The entire team is very knowledgeable, skillful, organized and friendly and we absolutely appreciated the combination of the technical expertise of a builder and the creative expertise of an architect Quatrefoil could provide us with. In particular the builder/architect combination made a difference as it helped to make the construction process very smooth. In case of minor adjustments to the plans we did not have to consult with our architect but could make these adjustments directly with the architect on our builder team. In addition to that, Quatrefoil's architect also enhanced our project with several creative and practical ideas. The communication with Quatrefoil was outstanding as well. Whenever we had questions about the project, needed to discuss changes, material selections etc. we received a prompt answer or were able to schedule on-site meetings immediately. Furthermore, we appreciated the opportunity to work alongside with the Quatrefoil team as we did several interior finish works and the electric installation ourselves. Quatrefoil was always a great resource and support to us.

Quatrefoil far exceeded my expectations as the general contractor of my extensive farmhouse renovation, an exceptional job from start to finish. As an architectural color consultant I find it a particularly rewarding experience to be brought into the design process during the construction stage of a new build or renovation. I had the pleasure of working on such a project this week with Quatrefoil. They were doing an extensive renovation of a turn of the century Victorian. I found the quality of workmanship very high and the attention to detail exceptional. I've been on many worksites in the past. At this one the house was extremely neat and the workers accommodated our need for a quiet space with adequate lighting for the consultation to choose wall colors and finishes for the kitchen and other rooms of the house. The owners of Quatrefoil are experienced working with period homes. The client commented what a joy they were to work with and how they helped keep the project organized and moving forward. They seem the perfect partnership of design skills and fine craftsmanship. As an architect/contractor duo their collaboration covers all the bases for a client. Burlock Interiors had the pleasure of working with Quatrefoil on a designer showhouse in 2012. They installed a loft and all our wood paneling for us. It was then that we learned that they are general contractors of the highest caliber. This year, they invited us to style one of the kitchens they designed (and built) for a photo shoot. And it was the same thing. Amazing work. Our services certainly overlap. We design kitchens too! The point is, we know great work when we see it.
