We have meticulously maintained our 15 year old custom built home, but over the years we experienced significant structural issues with HVAC, conditioned crawl space, and most seriously, a second floor balcony that had never been constructed properly, resulting in major water damage. After consulting with three recommended contractors, we selected Michael Harvey, as it was obvious he had the technical expertise to diagnose issues we did not know even existed. He explained to us that the job could uncover more problems that were unseen until the work began and progressed. He initially sent two of his experienced employees over to conduct an initial investigation of the roof under the balcony, and prepared a written report of their results. The work began in mid Autumn, and was completed in early February. Michael provided us a written contract, was honest that the costs could increase, depending upon what existed beneath the walls. This was a complicated, expensive job, but every step of the way Michael knew what to do, how to address it, and had the right people to perform the necessary work. Every day Michael came in the morning and late afternoon, consulted with us and his crew. His crew arrived early and stayed late every day. They were incredible. The entire integrity of our home was jeopardized by the original builder as there had been improper flashing, resulting in severe structural weakness of the house. There had been inappropriate flashing for the hardiplank siding on both the house and the detached garage. You cannot find anyone else on the NNK who has the professional expertise, skill, team members, and ability to tackle difficult construction problems and the willingness to do so, with the utmost integrity, than MIchael Harvey.

Michael Harvey and his team have assisted us with two major projects recently, both interior and exterior. The experience has been superlative in every way. The team is: prompt, responsive, readily understands our needs and clears up any ambiguity, good at suggesting alternatives or options, easy to work with, and fairly priced. Above all, the work is both extremely solid and conducted with care and attention to detail. For instance, while repainting the interior, the team renewed the door hardware so that it is completely functional, attractive, and not dated. Our projects involved a complete repainting of the interior. The house now looks brand new. On the exterior, Michael and his team completed a difficult excavation project with a retaining wall very quickly. The result is impressive. We highly recommend!

Our project was an extensive one during the pandemic with all of the supply chain and material cost challenges that came with it. We bought a large farmhouse in 2020 but soon realized that the original half of the house, built in 1910, had significant structural and foundation issues and was not worth trying to restore - this original construction had to be torn down and rebuilt. Michael and Dianna were recommended to us as two people that could help us solve our problem. Thank goodness we called them as they were both a joy to work with throughout this project. They gave us a realistic upfront cost estimate for the work and recommended and completed agreed upon repairs to the remaining part of the home as the project progressed. They also helped us with every detail from door knobs, to appliances, to floor stain, to porch railings, and on and on. But more than anything, Michael and Dianna are trustworthy people - what they say they will do and do it well. Knowing we could trust them and that they were honest and hard working meant a lot to us as we lived several hours from the construction site. Our house became a home during this last year thanks to Michael and Dianna and their team’s outstanding craftsmanship and dedication to our project.

Michael renovated a very tired guest house on our property, replacing a flat roof with a gabled roof, renovated the bathroom and painted the interior and exterior, transforming it into a quaint riverside cottage, where we are proud to have friends and family stay. Additionally, he oversaw our kitchen and family room remodeling, as well as numerous other projects on our home. His work is excellent, his subcontractors are very good and he is very friendly and easy to work with.

We just completed our most current project with Michael, a total remodel of the Master Bath with a barrier free huge walk-in shower, privacy and top of the line material and best of all impeccable detailed craftsmanship. I highly recommend Michael Harvey for any remodeling project you may have. He just completed a total makeover of a master bath as well as master closet. We are so excited with the finished product. After quite the search, I ended up choosing Michael Harvey Homes for my remodeling project. Choosing Michael for the project was a great choice. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with the results! We hired Michael to do a complete interior remodel of our 1970's waterfront townhouse with a basement and sun room addition. We lived out of state at the time of the remodeling project, so it was very important for us to have a trusting relationship with our contractor of choice. Micheal was referred to us personally by trustworthy friends. After meeting Michael and seeing his work, we gained complete trust in his character and in his craftsmanship. I have worked with Michael Harvey on several different projects. Our first remodel was on our kitchen. Michael had wonderful ideas and the project came in under budget and on time. My next project was our master bedroom and bath project. Again, Michael helped us find the best solution for the space and parameters of the budget. Michael and his team renovated our kitchen, our utility room and replaced all our wood floors. The craftsmanship was outstanding, the timing was excellent, the cost was very reasonable and the professionalism was terrific. We can not be more pleased. My house was on the market for about a year and finally sold the fist April 2018, I new their may be some issues possible doing the home inspection but one of the repairs did surprise me, some of joists in the crawlspace needed repair, Mike Harvey took control of the work, made sure of the installation requirements, provided the needed labor, and came through the final inspection with flying colors. The house also needed some siding repair and had some window issues, Mike ordered required material repaired the windows and siding he did a great job getting me out trouble, and I believe the new owners are very happy.

MIke was extremely easy to deal with and was straight up on the plan working closely with our design engineer and he is a incredible professional you could easily see he knows his stuff ! Handeling our major project Mike was extremely proficient in his plan and sticking to our estimate , schedule and handling every detail along the way! Overall Mike and his team took a major project and tackled it in a manner that made it feel smooth with no disruption. I would highly recommend Mike and his team. I couldn't have had a better Company then Michael Harvey Homes, to do repairs on my home. He gave me a breakdown print off of all the repairs that he thought should be done. He worked side by side with me with all my concerns, and reassured me that it would be done like it was his own home. They cleaned each area as they went along. When, I returned to see the finished repairs I was very happy that it turned out beautiful. It was done in the allotted time. Even with other major repairs Michael find along the way. His Employees were respectful of my home, and of myself. I was very fortunate to have met and have Michael Harvey Homes,repair my home. We have used Michael for about 12 years for all of our repairs, updates and corrections from old work done by others. When we made a choice for flooring that just did not work for us, Mike creatively solved the problem with virtually no disruption to the overall project. The project was on budget and on time. What a joy it was working with Mike Harvey! He built a 3-car, brick garage for me, and I could not be more satisfied. I obtained three bids for the job, Mike's was the lowest and most detailed. The materials Mike chose were topnotch, his subcontractors were uniformly outstanding (courteous, competent, neat), and Mike's attention to detail is second to none. The mark of a truly great builder is how well he handles the unpredictable curveballs that pop up in every construction job. We had our share, and Mike dealt with each one with the calm confidence of an unflappable, highly experienced, true professional. Our contract was fixed price, but when Mike encountered unforeseen problems, he never once sought to increase the price of the job, Instead, he honored our agreement and absorbed the additional cost of the workaround. Mike is such a perfectionist, that when he saw ways to improve on the architect's design, he did so at his expense. But Mike is much more than just a highly competent builder--he is a wonderful person to be around. When the job was over, I was sorry to see him leave! I thoroughly enjoyed his company and am glad now to count him as a friend. If you are planning a significant construction job and you want the best, hire Mike Harvey. You will not be disappointed. Mr. Harvey lives up to his motto, "Every Detail Matters". Not only is his finish work impeccable, but he has quite creative solutions. In our first project with him (a kitchen/dining room/powder room redo), he designed a beautiful porch that fit the lines of the house perfectly, wasn't in the original plan, but proved to be very cost effective. In the second project (bedroom/bath/living room), he easily accommodated our elaborate requirements for our shower and closet. He's fun to work with.

Michael Harvey brought our 1950's weekend cottage into the 21st century. He was a pleasure to work with--always good about returning calls--patient with paint color changes. His subcontractors did excellent work. He implemented the design developed by architect Jennifer McCann (White Stone VA) and he encouraged us to go even further--removing an additional wall and opening up our beautiful view. The total custom “makeover” of our home on Carters Creek was complex and very extensive. Opening-up a 1970’s design home involved removal of walls, relocation/installation of a country kitchen and vaulted creek room among many other improvements. Mr. Harvey was extremely responsive to the numerous challenges of renovations and changes throughout our project. His ability to supervise sub-contractors was very important to keep our project on schedule.
