One of our core values at Jeff Click Homes is Integrity, which we define as "To conduct all dealings with truth, honesty, and character pursuant to our Faith." When we mess up, we own up, and we do what we can to make it right, and if it still warrants a negative review, we accept that and hope to learn from it.
We've clearly disappointed a client, as indicated by this review. However, I believe a factual response is warranted as to the accusations directed towards my company and staff.
Our Community Manager, Brodie Tucker, consistently receives rave reviews and positive comments about his prompt responsiveness, level of attention and personal service to clients through the process of building with us. Though he's often serving over 20 different clients at any given time, a complaint about him is rare. That being said, he's human; sometimes personalities may not always be perfectly compatible within tedious processes, such as building a custom home. It's unfortunate that appeared to be the case in this instance, particularly surrounding one specific issue.
A drainage flume exists in a utility easement on this former client's chosen lot, and has been in existence since before this lot could even be built on. Our process involves several check-lists which are reviewed with the client in the planning and design stages. Among this list is a line item stating that the property and its existing improvements have been site-verified by the client. I don't know of a single home we've built whose client didn't walk the lot prior to choosing it. We also review the official site plan with the client, which is used to obtain our building permit and must show all utility easements (something we have no control over). We obtain the clients' initials on each of these items, as was the case in this instance. Prior to beginning construction, we have the property surveyed and each corner marked with certified stakes. I believe we are exceptionally diligent in reviewing this with, and precisely communicating this to, our clients in the interest of full reasonable disclosure of the process and the intended outcome. Well into construction on this home, were approached by the client with the expectation to spend several thousand dollars to beautify this flume in ways that we are not able to do legally, so we declined, and offered to refund the client's deposit and release him from the contract.
To be accused of false advertising despite this level of documentation and communication is both disingenuous and disheartening. I don't see how we could have done anything differently.
While I dispute the facts of this client's review, I do regret we were not able to reasonably resolve the matter and maintain him as a satisfied client. I believe the outcome, given the inevitability of dissatisfaction, was the right thing; to part ways. I would never want a client stuck with something he can't live with or in, and despite the negative review, I wish him well.
