I can't recommend CBI, because we had a very bad experience with them not building a second story addition/remodel to trade standards (not to code), architect and engineering plans weren't followed, the project went over the contracted "estimate", and CBI refused to address the issues, not even when the Contractors State License Board attempted mediation as part of their complaint process. The complaint is public information posted by the California Contractors State License Board, with the CSLB stating there that the case has been investigated by the CSLB (a government agency) and is referred to the Attorney General's Office with a recommendation of legal action (on behalf of the CSLB). Elsewhere, I posted a photo of a letter by the Redwood City Building Department stating that load bearing, seismic elements were missing or incorrectly done (8 anchor bolts were loose, the other 12 missing), missing elements concealed, and CBI continued building the addition that relied on these missing elements. We had the structure forensically examined after terminating CBI in August 2013, and the letter by the building department was written afterwards. The letter is online at the Redwood City Building Department when looking at permit information at the city, which is public information anyone can view in person or online, written by Bill Ekern of the Building Department. We sadly had to sell to recoup our enormous losses, after tearing out and rebuilding almost over the course of a year.
