Digital Living

Digital Living did a superb job designing and installing a seamlessly integrated audio-visual system in my new home in Oak Park, IL. Shireesh Reddy, the owner, consulted directly with me and my architect during each phase of the home construction process. He and his staff were knowledgeable, meticulous, timely, and very easy to work with. Their pricing was an added bonus. The final product is amazing: discreet, tasteful, and utterly essential to my new home. I've been so impressed with their work that I hired them two more times since.

I have had the pleasure of photographing installs for Digital Living for several years. I have seen a lot of their AV installs first hand. I photograph Interiors for a living and I have noticed a big difference in the quality and functionality of the installs that Digital Living provides compared to others. I really enjoy working with them and look forward to photographing more of their innovative/high tech installs in the future. All of the people that I have worked with at Digital Living are professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable.

Based on the recommendation of a friend who had used them, and on the sales promise of a system that just "worked", I selected Digital Living over the vendor recommended by my GC. Based on my perception of their expertise during the sales cycle, I also referred them to multiple co-workers before I had experienced the installed project for myself. What has followed has been over a year of frustration in efforts to get my system working correctly where seemingly every time one thing is fixed another goes out of service. Most disappointing has been that my family and I have experienced them not "proofreading" their work or completing punch list items they claimed were completed. The owner is quick to point blame elsewhere - for example, when my TV panels were not turning on correctly (stopping at the panel manufacturer screen rather than going right to the show), he claimed the TVs were adjusted by someone other than Digital Living, even though they were set up that way from Day 1 and no one in my family knew how to even access those menus. They had programmed an auto-close feature on our garage door so that it would close ten minutes after opening in case we forgot and instead on one occasion last winter OPENED, which led to some property being stolen. They claimed their programming was sound, and blamed it on bad hardware which was a combination of cold weather (we live in Chicago - was this only supposed to work in summer?), building materials (our house was new construction and we brought Digital Living in before breaking ground - there was nothing surprising there). Our system controller was faulty for several weeks, requiring a new one, which when re-installed, the tech failed to accurately re-install the garage controls (another example of lack of proofreading) because he installed it in the wrong panel and again the owner tried to blame us. In replacing the system controller, they also removed programming that was in place with the original controller allowing for TV images and different streaming music on in the same room and changed some lighting programming from what was correct before controller replacement - another example of failing to proofread. Our electric music library went missing just hours before a dinner party and to their credit, sent a tech over to jerry-rig it before a more permanent solution was in place. They missed several deadlines, which has led to a small bulge in the in a small portion of crown molding trim work because of wires that were not tied down. They also failed to pre-wire for our surveillance cameras during construction, which required a retrofit (though they did it mostly appropriately at their cost which meant the final surveillance product was close to what was spec'd even as if they hadn't made this mistake). In fairness, the company tried to amend past wrongs by adding additional programming to our system that was beyond the scope of the original project. But these systems are supposed to be like referees at sporting events - they're doing their job when you're not noticing them. Unfortunately, I'm stressed out every time I arrive home after they've been on site anxious about what hasn't been completed or worse, what had been working that now isn't.

Great experience - estimator was thorough and even did a quick re-program of my universal remote while there, no charge. Installer/technician was on time and very professional and thorough and did a great job on clean-up after the job. Installation is up and running perfectly. Highly recommended.

Shireesh is a consummate professional who did a great job for us. He really knows his craft, understands the equipment and how to implement it in your home, and had a number of useful suggestions about how to spend within our budget to maximize the experience we were looking for. It's clear he didn't want to "up sell" because he may a number of suggestions on where not to spend money and explained where doing so makes sense or the pros and cons. Highly recommended.
