I give Dave Caldwell and his team my highest recommendation. I had a tear down/rebuild on Great Island in Narragansett. Dave was able to greatly assist in navigating the regulatory maze to get the necessary approvals to make the project a reality. The scope and the projected cost were very accurately estimated so there were no hidden surprises. Dave and his team meet with me on a weekly basis to discuss the progress and address the issues that may of arisen. The workmanship was superb with excellent oversight.The outside vendors we used provided great service/products at resonable cost. The project was completed in the estimated timetable.

After contracting with a designer to design a complete first floor remodeling of our home, my husband and I, based on her recommendation and after interviewing Dave Caldwell, hired Caldwell and Johnson to do the job. This involved taking out an existing kitchen, bedroom and bathroom in order to build a new kitchen, half bath and foyer. It also involved constructing a very beautiful front portico. We were extremely pleased with the manner in which Dave Caldwell operates his business. You know up front what your costs will be. There are no surprises. He is fair and honest. Once the project began, there were workers here every weekday until completion. They always cleaned up after a day's work keeping our safety and comfort in mind. (We lived in our home while the project was going on.) His crew and subcontractors are all very skilled and professional. I particularly liked how they would offer suggestions for some of the decisions that had to be made along the way. We found it very easy to work with Dave and liked that he met with us weekly to discuss the details of the project. He was also readily available by email or phone and responded to our queries promptly. Our home looks beautiful now. In particular, we love our new kitchen. My husband and I highly recommend Caldwell and Johnson for any building projects anyone in our area may have.

We did a whole-house renovation with Caldwell & Johnson and could not have been happier with the outcome. When renovating a historic house there are always a lot of surprises (none of them good) and you have to trust your partner completely. Dave & Tina Caldwell are a great team, who know their craft and are endlessly patient with the many, many decisions that have to be made to get the job done. We are very happy that we chose them and would recommend them without reservation to anyone who wants a reliable, capable partner. My wife was especially happy working with Tina, who has a great design sense of her own but also worked well with my wife's taste to come up with practical, beautiful choices.

It was by chance that we met Dave Jr. After talking to him at length about his ideas and Green building techniques we decided to explore having him build us a home, once we started working with him we never looked back. We brought him a house plan we found online and after customizing it together he built us a beautiful, comfortable, energy efficient home! Unlike other builders we have worked with Dave has a personal touch. Right from the beginning he was very involved with weekly status meetings and was available anytime we needed him. Dwayne, the finish carpenter, built us a beautiful custom fireplace mantel and other custom finishing touches to make our home a showplace. Through Dave's tireless efforts our home was the first home in RI and the second in New England to earn the Builders Challenge Certification and received The National Green Building Standard Silver Award. Dave also worked hard to find us Green/energy incentives and we ended up getting two substantial rebates. The project was completed on time and on budget and we are definitely enjoying the energy savings. We would highly recommend Dave and all of the staff at Caldwell and Johnson.

I would recommend this company to my friends or anyone who requires an energy update on their property. We are quite pleased with the extensive work they have done on our home. They have made our residence more liveable and energy efficient. Ms. Caldwell's decorating guidance was appropriate and current and well within our budget. In fact, the entire project was designed to fit our means. Deadlines were met and the work was totally professional.

We hired Caldwell & Johnson (C&J) for Dave's knowledge of green technology. Before the project began Dave showed us other houses he had built using some of this technology. In the last stages of design we decided to use photovoltaic technology. C&J installed solar shingles on the south facing roof that are producing more kilowatts than we are consuming. The photovoltaics coupled with other building techniques C&J uses to produce energy efficient homes (e.g. foam insulation) earned us a Home Energy Rating Certificate with a 5 stars plus rating. Dave followed through to get the house tested for its energy efficiency and we received certificates with the results. C&J was also top rate in terms of designing the interior details of the house. For example, board and batten was installed on the walls of the open staircase, craftsman style trim on all windows including some open transoms, and help when choosing finishes (e.g. tile). Dave's team is very knowledgable and professional!
