The Works

If you need a remodel, please do not choose Bette. Things in the beginning started off pretty well. She did a lot of legwork coming up with design ideas, and she was very patient as we were making changes to the plans. She also recognized that my house was very nice and that any contractor she worked with needed to be careful while they were there. She provided some common sense advice in the beginning of the project - do not start the demolition until everything for the project was received. I heeded this advice, although it's what I would have done anyway. She also said that her services would include making sure that all of the right things were received. Therein is where I ran into numerous problems. Everything was received in November of 2021, and the demolition started on December 1, 2021. When everything arrived (over a period of several weeks in November 2021), she said she would come out to check everything and she never came out. In fact, she did not come out during the project unless we asked her to do it - she always had some excuse for not being able to come over. There were delays throughout the project due to challenges that the contractor was running into; this was not Bette's fault. However, one issue that occurred was that the contractors installed the shower tile, but the tile was wrong. Bette had never checked the tile, which required all of the tile to be ripped out, the backer board had to be reinstalled, the new tile had to be received for which there was a delay, and then it had to be installed again. This added several weeks to the project. The next issue that occurred was that not all of the plumbing fixtures were received. After the plumber realized it, then Bette brought more over and she insisted that everything was there as her husband checked everything out, but once again there were missing pieces, one of which was the shower head. How would that get missed? The next issue was the cabinets. I was supposed to have received an 18 inch cabinet but i had only received a 12 inch cabinet. This added a delay of about 4 months due to issues with production because of COVID and weather issues in Canada which is where the cabinets were produced. This issue was discovered in April 2022 and it wasn't until August that the cabinet was received. Had she done what she said, which was checking everything when it arrived, she would have realized in November 2021 that the cabinet was wrong and could have ordered a new one back at that time. After we received the cabinet and it was installed, the next issue was that there was a ceiling panel which was supposed to be 18 inches to go along with the cabinet, but she didn't order that. This caused another delay of about 3 weeks. The bathroom came out nice but using her was pretty much a disaster. I would NOT recommend her for anything. Find someone else. She hasn't even contacted me since the project was completed last month (11 months for the project).

My husband and I were very excited to do a full house renovation and paid upfront $4500 which included design services and subsequent project management. After experiencing repeated unprofessional behavior from Bette, she quit on us before the designs were completed and took our money. Designs did not even include a 3-D color virtual rendering which I am finding now almost all design build firms include for free once you sign on with them. Instead we received paper drawings with a concepts a designer at Home Depot could have come up with. The showroom was a mess and very disorganized. Things went south when we wanted to make tweaks to the design which we thought was a normal part of the process. Instead every change we wanted to make seemed to be an affront to her which is where the unprofessionalism reared it’s ugly head. I won’t even go through the poor communication (not returning messages) and having to ask for things several times before it would register and they’d be added to the design. We are now going through Avatar Contractor Group and are half way through our project. The difference between the two is like night and day. Please do yourself a favor and stay away. This woman is a fraud.

Blake Howell was our designer in remodeling our kitchen. He listened to what we liked and gave us that and much more. We tweeked our design a little and he provided great advice and ideas that we loved. Besides nailing our design to a tee - Rustic Contemporary - his customer service/follow up was the best I've been involved with. He made sure we - the client - were satisfied - all the way. I highly recommend Blake and down the road when we remodel our Master Bath , he will be the designer I call. Thanks to Blake we have a freakin' awesome kitchen!
