The company arturo alvarez was created in 1994, dedicated to the design and manufacture of decorative lighting for homes and commercial installations. Its philosophy was then, and still is, to offer lamps with great personality, with a strong emotional component, made by hand, taking good care of their finishes and treating them as unique and exclusive pieces. Arturo Álvarez, creative driving force of the firm, is the leading designer of the brand and also one of its founders. For some years now, he decided to invest in innovation, exploring and developing his own materials for his lighting designs. This research has led him to create and register SIMETECH®, an innovative material that was awarded BEST OF YEAR 2014 in New York by Interior Design Magazine in the category of "Innovative Translucent Shading/Lighting Solution". Twelve of the collections designed by Arturo Álvarez are made of SIMETECH®. In 2007 the firm creates a reflection and experimentation space for other designers and Arturo Álvarez himself. Hector Serrano, El Ultimo Grito, Martín Azúa, Matali Crasset or Bertjan Pot have already experienced working on this innitiative. Some pieces of the firm have formed part of exhibitions, at art galleries and museums of London, New York and Tokyo. And they also figure on the world's main design sites. Their Bety model remains at the Museo de las Artes Decorativas de Barcelon, after being part of “Conceptos y diseños para un cambio de siglo”, a review of the last ten years of Spanish design. In 2008, their lamp Gea achieved the prestigious international award Good Design, and in 2009 so did Fluo. In 2010, they obtained a Red Dot, for Guau, designed by El Último Grito. In the future, the firm plans to keep on the path of innovation in crafted design, as an undeniable hallmark of the brand, exploring more ecological and energy saving light sources, and on a commercial level, continue widening and consolidating foreign markets.
