Garden ideas and Courtyard
Regarding the garage: the plans that have been submitted to council have the driveway entry as it is now. After careful consideration and a near divorce over the issue, I believe it would be better to rotate the garage/carport 90 degrees and have a new driveway coming in from about where the stack of bricks is now. My reasons for this is that 1) the driveway is shorter and therefore cheaper 2) gabions /retaining walls can be extended out closer to the Ellen St boundary allowing for more glitz and glam in the planting and boulder department. 3) the north/eastern and s/western walls of the garage will make for a much more attractive backdrop to the front garden on the s/w side and the courtyard attractive border to the courtyard on the north/east
Curved walls and firepit
I feel that Ellen Street can be lengthened overall by taking the viewers eye along a continuous or intermittent line ( similar to this building) and I think that would be best achieved by adding pergolas and low strips of garden wall or rock filled gabions. We started to do that but found that the gabions we purchased where too fragile in their gauge and so need to be re- installed using a higher gauge of wire. We left them as is so that perspective buyers could get the vibe.
Very quick and basic plan of the garden showing possible new position of the driveway
