We did a very detailed design drawing to make it happen. Part of the difficulty was to suspend the mirror in front of the window. so we custom designed a metal bracket to be attached to the back of the mirror and the trim. The electric wire is brought up through the window trim and through a pipe on the back of the mirror. The light fixture is quite light and is 'glued' to the mirror. We painted the back of the mirror matte black to 'hide it as much as possible from the outside.
Best for practicality: Quartz A manmade quartz, such as Silestone, offers the benefits of natural stone, being extra hard and durable, but with a contemporary, clean look. the back counters were 1/2 inch and the island is 4 inches. It is silestone white zeus extreme. and I used silestone volcano finish in Haiku on the back wall. I purchased them from Lightopia in Laguna Beach, CA. Ask for Kenneth Vick, and mention 992 Oceanfront, LB. He will know exactly what you are talking about. And these were very inexpensive and look even better in person.
The panels are 6mm thick. When installing a counter top with our material it is recommended to use Kerdi Board from Schluter Systems. This comes in a 1 1/2" thickness and smaller. You can put a plywood base and adhere the kerdi board to the plywood. You can make the return on counter tops any width you like. The fabricator would have to build up the substrate to make the wider return. That is another benefit in using our porcelain slabs, you can have a 3" return with no seams showing. The counter is made of Caesarstone Blizzard quartz and the backsplash is Statuario marble tiles (4"x20"). We wanted a light counter but maintenance was a consideration so we opted to use the Blizzard for its colour and low maintenance and softened the form with the organic movement in the marble backsplash.
