DESIGN CHALLENGE : Since all of the loft — except for her bedroom — is one great room, it was important for her to pay attention to floor plans and arrange the furniture in a logical and comfortable way. "Even the best furniture won't look good if it's positioned wrong," she says. "I had my furniture laid out three ways before I found the best arrangement."

Exposed brick and an industrial style ceiling complete with track lights meets a thick pile rug, rich chocolate upholstery and a crisp white contemporary sofa. The result is warm and contemporary.
The apartment has a small terrace off the living area that now has a much better connection with the interior. No work was done outside, Cambie says, but there is potential for an extension of some sort further down the line
This apartment above a law firm in bustling east London was dark and in need of work. To bring it to life, the owner enlisted the help of architect Sue Cambie to make it feel more contemporary and light, and to give it a New York loft vibe. This meant opening up the first level to create an airy kitchen, living and dining area, and introducing industrial features, such as exposed brickwork, a steel beam and distressed wood.
CONNECTING COLORS : In an open floor plan, an accent color can connect different areas of your home. Upholstery is a great way to accomplish this. I love how these dining chairs are in a solid fabric while the wing chair wears a pattern.
