In keeping with our ‘Parisian Chic’ concept, we installed panelling throughout. We used a master joiner to install the panelling and he was amazing. He drew in pencil every single line for our approval. t was important to achieve a cohesive look. However, with so many joinery pieces we needed subtle differentiation. We needed to keep the overall look classic but wanted to add some visual interest. We achieved this by: Using a Shaker profile for the joinery visible to the living and dining areas. Using a fine beading profile for the joinery in the living and dining areas to complement the wall panelling. The master bedroom had a double-beading profile to exude elegance. 5) Wall Panelling Floor to ceiling wall panelling is typical in a classic Parisian apartment but of course this can be hard to recreate. Some more modest Parisian apartments will have panelling to 1200 high which is easier to achieve. If panelling is too hard to install in your home, I recommend considering the internal doors that you use and opting for ones with some panelling. Certainly, a flush door does not look right for this style.
Types of wall panelling Low panels with only a dado or chair rail at waist height offer a sense of structured elegance. Leaving the top section free is perfect where there are low ceilings, as the proportions can help give the sense of a taller space. This system works well particularly along a staircase. Full panelling, where there are panels up to waist height and taller panels above, are great to give a room that classical and more formal feel.
