Playful Nursery Decor A bookcase from the family's former living room now adds storage to the reading zone in the nursery. Instead of using wallpaper to add a graphic punch, a simple stencil design does the trick at a much more affordable price. A copy of a vintage reading poster showcased as art continues the graphic approach.
Colorful and Classic The trick to decorating the bedroom for the owners' eldest daughters was creating a room they could grow in. They turned to striking patterns and colors to provide the perfect balance of sophistication and fun. The inexpensive headboards were a budget DIY project, created by wrapping plywood with foam and batting, stapling the fabric, then hanging the homemade pieces on the wall.
11. Smart SeparationThis studio apartment in Moscow has a clever, efficient layout. A dividing wall separates the sleeping area from the rest of the space and serves both sides as handy shelving. Nods to midcentury modern design add streamlined style and playful touches to the compact abode.Notable detail: The three-dimensional artwork plays nicely off the gridded room divider.
This playroom is over our garages. Remember back when we were framing the house? I was walking around this room and noticed that there was some empty space in the wall under the window because of our steep roofline. I was trying to think of a way to tap into that space and use it and later that night I woke up at 2:00 in the morning with a vision of large, deep pull out drawers for toys! Here is what that vision currently looks like today. Clearly I do my best thinking in the middle of the night.
Kids' Bedroom With Hidden Storage Wood panelled drawers and cupboards keep toys and clothing out of sight. The two architects behind Toronto firm Studio Junction designed their home with functionality and the environment in mind. This modern bedroom and playroom for their two preschool-aged children keeps stowed items behind seamless Douglas fir panels. Shelves above the bed display storybooks, and high-up storage cupboards offer a perfect spot for out-of-season clothing. A bold rug adds a fun pop of colour to the sleek space. https://houseandhome.com/gallery/photo-gallery-organized-family-homes/ http://studiojunction.ca/cms/courtyard-house.html
Designer Paolo Moschino has created a cosy cabin-bed at the end of the dressing room in this house in Cornwall. When commissioning pieces of furniture it is always wise to consider whether you can include any clever storage - here the inbuilt drawer hides away the client's shoe collection. It would also be perfect storage for extra bedding.
SMALL BEDROOM WITH CURTAINED BED Small spaces don't have to be white and minimal. Instead, embrace the diminutive size of a room and even emphasise it by creating a cosy nook (see how to create 'hygge' in your home). The small bedroom in Patrick Williams' Victorian flat is entirely painted in Farrow & Ball's 'Lamp Room Grey'. It is a haven of calm watched over by a stone statue of the Virgin Mary. Patrick enclosed the bed, hiding the original chimney breast and cleverly making use of the voids either side for a bedside shelf and walk-in cupboard. The patchwork quilt on the bed was made by Patrick's grandmother, while the painting is by his mother.

Eicker most enjoyed working on this bedroom, belonging to the owner's two sons, aged three and six. His starting point was the eldest's obsession with trains, and this led him to the wallpaper by The New Yorker cartoonist Saul Steinberg, which he teamed with a turquoise carpet with red-and-white fabrics. Accessorised with vintage toy trains, the room is original and playful without being overdone or saccharine. Taken from the October 2010 issue of House & Garden. Additional text: Jennifer Goulding.
the most of every inch by using built-in bookshelves combined with floor-to-ceiling cupboards. For kids' rooms, it gives them more room to play, but it also works in smaller, galley-style kitchens, too.
A large, internal glazed window provides views from the main bedroom into the sitting room and vice versa; a concealed Venetian blind provides privacy. The bed sits on a 60cm podium, elevating the floor level and allowing access to all the cupboards. It raises the bed to provide views through the internal window across the sitting room to the leafy square that is at the front of the house and the window that overlooks the rear of the building.
'My clients had asked me to include an office space within the apartment,' says Daniele. So in the main bedroom, he designed a built-in desk to the right of the access steps, made in European oak and treated with the same wax by Turgon used on the wooden flooring. The continuity of the materials makes the room feel larger.
n "What was a weird, long unusable closet with a file cabinet in it is now such a huge asset to the house," says Mangini of the bedroom's built-in bunk beds, which she and Bright constructed by repurposing a formerly awkward space.
