Entryways, Staircases, and Halls 3
Isn't this a great idea for stairs? I know a lot of architects and designers like open-back stairs because they don't block light or sight lines, but they never feel safe to me--and especially not for small children. This seems to me to be a really great compromise--in fact, better than a compromise, because the style used here adds a whole extra dimension to the space. "Wicker blinds, white staircase, antique lighting make this cosy space a light and friendly environment."
Master bedroom with a South Atlantic Coast inspired, aqua-hued color scheme. Floors made from reclaimed hand-scraped barn wood red oak. Pendant - Who is the manufacturer/brand of the ceiling light? Where can I purchase it? OUTinDesign Hi, I got the pendant at Restoration Hardware. It looked like a nautical light but its called the London Street Light. Is there a stain on the 100 year old reclaimed flooring? OUTinDesign Hi, The 100-year-old barn-wood hardwood red oak flooring from Western Pennsylvania, is finished with bona kepi naturale to give it a natural tone. Glad you like it! White washed walls - The white walls are beautiful, too. What wood and treatment was used to give it a whitewashed look? OUTinDesign The wood on the floors and ceilings is 100-year old reclaimed red oak barn wood. The ceiling wood is finished with highly diluted aqua tint to give it just a hint of color and left without varnish to assure the wood looks natural and that there is no reflection. Would like to know source for bed linens. OUTinDesign Hi. Thanks for your interest in my work! I loved doing this room - actually the whole house was really an amazing opportunity to unite my French and American...
I like the way they've added a piece to extend each railing post down onto the wall below it. And I really like the curve of the gallery wall at right (open out this and the previous photo full size to see it better).
"This staircase had to be replaced, so O’Mara built in a wall-to-wall bookcase, both as a storage solution and to create a colorful feature in an otherwise dead space. She used Farrow & Ball Railings paint on the steps to highlight the geometric shapes."
This is fun. I like a space that doesn't take itself too seriously.
This is so cool. I love the wallpaper, and that's a beautiful antique chest. I don't know what that piece is above the plates, that's framed in rope, but it looks interesting.
I really love how much architectural interest has been built into this home.
