Design Tips
Note: Don't be afraid to experiment. There are several different pieces here, but this is a very nice grouping. Interesting how the items against the windows hit right at the height of the horizontal divider on the window. Also, the slight angles of the taller, outer chairs just pulls everyone into the conversation. Smaller toss pillows on larger chairs, and the large pillow on the couch.
Great ways to work with an open floor plan. A tone-on-tone, patterned paper distinguishes between dining and living areas, but is neutral and in same color range. Two simple aqua pieces, the rung and the container, define the living room. NOTE: there are tufts of pink threading in the rug that make the toss pillows work. VERY NICE.
White and neutral rooms continue to be popular in design . . . BUT to be successful, you need more textures and patterns for interest, to avoid boredom.
Dividers.
Note the unique metal sheet backing on the bar.
Just love the entire space.
Trunk for a coffee table is smart. It adds interest, texture, table surface AND extra storage.
I'm not a big fan of "matching" sets; but this room works. First of all, the pieces aren't oversized for the space. Second, the decor accessories are very nice and help the look of the room. Finally, they've wisely pulled pieces into the room, avoiding the "dance-hall affect: where everything is pushed to the edges of the room. This is a relatively small space, but there is still plenty of space to move around.
Picture how boring this space would be WITHOUT the eclectic mix of pieces, and the varied patterns and textures.
Nice example of two toned cabinets.
Not my style, but a good example for those thinking about using multiple colors for kitchen cabinets.
Another example of using small scaled, primarily wooden chairs in combination with upholstered pieces.
Nice example of colors, patterns and textures lending character and interest to a room.
We are sometimes hesitant to combine smaller, wooden frame chairs with heavily upholstered pieces. There's no reason not to, as this example proves.
Note the marvelous mixture of textures and pieces here. The rough wood surround on the fireplace sets everything else off. Beautiful AND interesting.
Wonderful use off varied woods, their colors, textures and shapes.
