Create a Sociable IslandEntertaining is at the heart of the laid-back Hamptons lifestyle, and so is an inviting kitchen that’s welcoming, relaxed and enjoyed by all ages. A sociable island with comfortable, casual seating is the ideal way to bring a sense of easy living to your cooking space and ensure your guests are always part of the action. For ultimate comfort and to encourage guests to linger longer, offer a cantilevered bench that has plenty of legroom, while cosy upholstered bar stools will introduce a classic element into the modern mix. It’s all in the details. Subtle touches of weatherboard panelling, such as under the island, will give a nod to beach house living in a chic and refined way, while no Hamptons-style kitchen should be without statement pendant lights that add a bold touch.
Brief The site is a narrow urban block, so we needed to maximise light and a feeling of openness.
