PH inspiration
Articulation offering benefits in weathering and shading due to step change, nice detail with window to tie them back together. Also lovey walled garden inspiration (lime not concrete though)
lining up courtyard walls with massing articulation to tie external walling with main building without actually having to use the bricks on the timber framing. Brick to timber tones are lovey
Potential use use cladding to shade, although in this case not effective performance difference between summer and winter. 2 views of greenery
Cube with intregue, layid out on the diamond
Deep reveals with lighter internal colour. Use of circular windows. Shapes intersecting, flat roof projecting from pitch.
Offset suo pitch with cut outs for interest
Beautiful planning facing document
Fabulous alfresco, much bigger roof overhang without it getting too dark or expensive. Also integreates planting within the building form, great intregue
Huge monopitch, possibly too dark for interior room. Compensate with side glazing in our detached case.
Minimal windows in compact shape. Interesting building photography
If a chimney is needed this is a very interesting method of including one which could also be fake without seeming stuck on
Loving the meadow in close proximity, also triangle fixed roof light. The gable with a change in angle really helps articulate although in this case no shading and too much glass
Mono pitch solves ridge heigh issues, although would require PV zig zag on cross section. The use of circular roof lights also nice interior effect. Chamffered rear wall also interesting as would potentially allow for a better fit on site within plots and brek up the square plan view. Happy also to tank up to 1000 to help with ridges, if suspended timber not possible
Ingenious use of geometry to create a surprisingly simple timbering plan given the degree of percieved curvature
Flat roof with parapet maintains simple timbering with basic segmented coping sotne
Lovely exterior space, use of chessboard masonry detail, perfect for shading although maybe too dark for UK
Opacity change in gable has a purpose, linking with external spaces, very simple but elegant solution
Roof line option - double duo pitch fr keeping roof line down. Can work with PV if northern mass set slightly higher
Punch in on second floor making the most of duo pitch. Pitch to the right could also come right down to the ground for extra PV with glazing cut through the roof
East, South and West facades do work for PV, that said the roof shapes would be triangular which is not efficent. Can completly eleminate the north pitch. Square top also interesting.
Try to avoid balcony and cut in due to water handling and cost, although really helps to imrpove the look
How not to do rainwater handling in the UK
If the centre point was shifted down in the image this design would be an interesting way of introducing high level light and retain two very large pitches. That said the roof shapes would be triangular which is not efficent.
Very basic shape with very low cost facade solution which is not too boring
EK - cladding facade intrigue - might become dated quickly
Simply include an inward opening window on the chamfer. Also chamfer the top of the external walls to bring additional water inboard. Use drips on the interior lines of the wall to save on painting. Have a raised exterior overflow pipe to provide drought resistance
KK - Fantastic method of making a box interesting whilst excentuating a green feature. Parapetted flat roof offers PV potential, keeps ridge hiehgt down and maintains safety at height, could even trim you tree from it.
Single extreme dormer could act as a single feature to break the box. Also like the roof zone, glazed strip and clad zone
Overhang porch to front facade with a steep/shallow duopitch. L shaped also. No to cabin style but massing getting close to what we are thinking
Amazing cut outs and asymmetrical wall projections to the rear. Triangular cuts problematic with PV, although could work close to ground against one side.
Right of sunshine concept important for placement of buildings
Big overhang really helps with shading. Glased disconnect will be difficult to detail but possible. Perfect place to bring in light. Great method for making the roof float. Flattening of the roof pitch at the bottom could be useful for the outdoor room. Also outdoor room can be dropped in order to allow for subfloor void flow and to introduce levels
EK - 2 south pitches with small north roof centred rather than to one side
Entrance overhang a fantasic way to introduce intreage. Can't be over a significant area due to loss of TFA as overhang extends the projected floor print. Could make the projection a porch, outside of insulted envelope. Triangular projections look very different without impact on PH
Can use a completely different texture to infill under the overhang to reclaim the TFA
Use of roofing material on wall
subtle projects to make masses feel separate, whilst retaining a concise SA/VR (Surface Area to Volume Ratio)
Nice detailing around a punched gable end
Simplistic rhomboidal massing, flat roof would require zig-zag East West PV mounting solution
Interesting use of glazing, could be used to keep facades clear of glazing whilst still creating the highly glazed feel in particular rooms and reduces overall thermal bridges associated with glazing. However concentrated glazing still creates localised oerheating and the non distributed nature of the windows making lighting difficult.
Roof to ground feels good, very small inefficiency for big visual impact
L shaped but interesting roof, secret gutter detail
