Fron Residence
I'm having a hard time with these horizontal bar railings that I am seeing nearly everywhere -- on main staircases, balcony railings, yard perimeter fences, guarding window wells, etc. Perhaps I need more time to warm up to it, but I don't really like it. I'm not saying I love more traditional, vertical posts supporting hand rails, I'm just not sure I like these. It seems like they are becoming the standard, though, so not really many other ideas are available.
I am saving another photo of this exact same house design with slightly different materials -- perhaps it's photoshopped that way, not sure. Obviously we don't have a front facing garage, but what we like about this home is the differing depths of the front-facing aspects. This isn't really as possible with our L-shape design, and the size of our narrower lot, but I'm wondering if there are any design mods that can lend to the illusion of differing depths of the front face of the home. We also like the "raked" rooflines all angled in the same direction. We've seen other cool raked rooflines that we probably wouldn't work for us, as they sometimes seem weird and like a snow-collection problem.
this home is so darned cool. I would pick a different color for the white, but I'm not sure which one.
I don't know what color the white parts should be, but the white really messes this up.
The white trim might be too much contrast, but the black and brown looks great.
Neat combination of materials. I love the black brick and manufactured stone.
I don't like vertical siding or vertical lines to achieve the black part.
The front. Is that strip lighting around the porch cover?
The brown (or copper?) is achieved in the facing on this home. I think I prefer it achieved with portions of siding.
Swap out the brown stone with black brick or manufactured stone.
Very interesting. I like the shadow-box style to the balconies. The light colored stone, stucco and soffits add interest.
Super cool.
This home is beautiful. There is a lot of siding, and it looks absolutely great.
Black and brown contemporary. I like this because it is more black than brown.
Black and brown is a beautiful color combination.
Carmen likes the variable finishes, the half open, half wall-separated common area, the large windows, and that it's contemporary.
Carmen likes the large windows, the patio, the earth islands in the patio, and the color scheme.
Like that rooms open to outdoor living space, the windows (skylight windows up high), and the outdoor living space.
Love the outdoor living space (including fire pit) and the bar opening to it. Like the folding patio doors. Don't like the way the support beams under the eaves look.
Carmen likes the windows, the interesting design, the color scheme, and the stone/cinder blocks.
This one doesn't interest Carmen.
Carmen likes this porch but would switch out the limestone and use less stucco. The color scheme is good.
Carmen really likes this one: the outdoor living space, the bar opening to it, the interesting stone-work, the large windows, the metal roof, the lighting and interest design details.
Carmen likes the patio and stonework. The color scheme is nice. She likes teak, but wood really takes a beating in CO. Should avoid it as much as possible.
Carmen likes the idea of cinder block construction, as well as the large windows, and windows on the opposite sides of rooms that allow seeing through from one side of the building to the other, but strategically placed in order to maintain privacy from the large amount of traffic on our corner. Thinking the structure is more fortress-like on the public view sides, and very glass and clear on the private sides.
This outdoor space is phenomenal. The glass doors are amazing. I wish one could zoom in on the photos.
Carmen likes the stone wall holding the flat screen and the fire insert, the open bookshelf furniture used as a room separator, the high-up skylight windows, and polished concrete floor. She does not like the wooden ceiling in the living room, but thinks a wooden ceiling adds interest in smaller/ancillary rooms.
Carmen likes aspects of this one. The square/rectangular room attached to the structure with the pitched roof is interesting in a good way. She would use a different type of stone. She and Ed both like metal roofs. The large windows and outdoor living space are great. The ceiling beams inside the kitchen add a lot of interest, but Carmen is not yet sure about ceiling beams as a design element.
The clean, modern look, and the stairs with monorail and glass rails.
