Notes for Terry - Inspiration Ideas with notations
Terry - could you flank the range hood with floating shelves like these? This means some of the cabinets would need to be removed, but thats ok. 18 inches, maybe 24? Not sure what works out size wise to keep the cabinets a standard size. I don't want custom sized items if we can avoid it. I'm trying to save money where I can.
One end of the island needs to be open like this example for a stool to tuck under. This is why I don't want waterfall on both sides. If it looks weird to have waterfall on one side and not the other, then I will default to this example on both ends. It is a priority for us to have this seating arrangement as we like to eat 70% of our meals at the counter, and enjoy the conversational dynamics this gives us.
I was originally thinking to put this just outside of the pantry, which was where the prep sink was. That would make getting water for the coffee pot easy. Now, I'm not sure if I will incorporate an area like this or not. One idea is to have the prep sink at the far (west) end of the island, the have this coffee area at the end of the west wall that backs to the dining room. Unfortunately, that spot is where I just moved the wall oven to.
Terry - For the fireplace, something like this. A hearth that you can sit on that extends wider than the fireplace. The shelves sit on the hearth and are vertical. That wall will allow for narrow shelves I think - maybe 24 inches wide? I don't want to get in the way of the French doors with the extra side lights as light is an issue in this house. The more light the better. I have 2 more thoughts on the fireplace: 1. how to solve placement of TV components? I'd like them hidden. I'm not sure that if we put in base cabinets that the room will feel more cramped? I don't know how to solve this. Also, I'd like to maximize the width of the fireplace for this reason: It is the only place in the room for the TV placement, and we'll want a fairly large TV. I want the scale to work. I think I have some homework to find out the width of a large tv.
