SYH: 800 Kitchen
SG: we like this onebest. Maybe nickel ? Whatever looks best with sink...SY: I could go a number of directions on finishes for the kitchen sink faucet, but black and stainless or satin nickel are my favorite. I checked out some Rohls yesterday and think mixing Rohl and Kohler in the house makes good sense. This is one of three Rohl kitchen faucet options I dig - can you weigh in with your thoughts on style and function? This is the Pirellone. Does not come in black. This is stainless.
SG: Like this nook a lot. I agree that the idea of a table in kitchen is important SYH: of the two kitchen layouts we like the best that open up the room to the hall, one retains this nook with bar and table, and the other repurposes this end of the space for cabinetry. Your thoughts on how much it matters to you to retain the nook's purpose as it currently is? We would still make sure you had a place to sit in the kitchen - just at an island rather than a breakfast table. Not arguing for one option or the other, but just wondering about your attachment to this set up.
SG: We have a Miele induction cooktop in the city that is AWESOME. So easy to clean and to control the heat with. I like this idea a lot. I will find a picture of what we have to see if it was what you have in mind. SY: same kitchen as last image. In looking at the kitchen at 800 closely, we don't really hate the layout as it is. I know you don't either. The two things I dislike about it: 1) dishwasher location is awkward, and 2) the hall behind the fridge is so darn narrow. The layout in this image represents a possible fix. If you reorganized similar to this, and were ok with range in island, we could open up the kitchen, eliminating the narrow hall currently between kitchen and middle room. What are your thoughts on range in island and in reworking the kitchen in that major way in order to open up hall? Thumbs up on us at least exploring that?
SY: ok! SG: We have fridge drawers in CT and they are very useful. Not sure if we need it and would rather have wine storage under the counter SY: if you did a narrower fridge or over/under fridge/freezer column from Subzero (24-30"W), and you wanted to supplement, you could conceivably add extra under cabinet drawers for freezer/fridge/beverages/ice. Keeping in mind that you're not using this kitchen much of course, and that it is reasonably small... Still, it might be nice to keep some stuff in a freezer for when you show up from time to time.
SG: Yes I think so SY: considering how infrequently you will be using this house, are you ok with downdraft ventilation instead of a hood? If we open up the hallway to the kitchen and put the cooktop in an island, a big hood hanging down in the middle of the room is in view from all the directions :/
SY: got it. SG: I think so. I would try to build it in somewhere. In the city we have a microwave drawer. It is pretty handy too. Not sure if wall or cabinet space is tighter so could go either way SY: Do you want a microwave? Shelf or built in? (This is a shelf microwave with some pretty great cabinetry built around it for ventilation.)
SY: ok! Small like shown here? This is 24" wide (standard) - could go to 15" wide. SG: No need for ice maker or espresso maker (true midwestern that I am I like brewed coffee!) but wine fridge would be nice. Can be small. SY: Do you want any extra bells and whistles in kitchen, like: wine/beverage fridge, ice maker, or built in espresso maker ...
SY: ok! We will pursue. You mentioned a Wolf when we were at the house, but you prefer this instead? Probably your kitchen is small enough that we will want to install the oven underneath the cooktop (in island with hood above as shown in the previous image). SG: I can't find the configuration we have, but this is from the Miele product line. John, who is really the family cook, loves it as much if not more than I do
SG: This is fine. SY: Caesarstone Calacatta Nuvo is Choice #1 for kitchen, baths, ensuite shower
