Something simple like this for the hall is fine.
As far as a sconce, this is pretty nice
NOT anything like this. ?
This might be fun too.
Front or side door option?
I have a thing for bees. My grandma was Beatrice—Bea. We also like ferns and dragonflies(festival where the sign is from) and violets—Joanie’s mom was Violet, Vi. Those elements snuck into places in a subtle way make us happy. We don’t like this tile, but if you see anything to put in as an Easter egg hidden in the design somewhere it would be cool. I think that’s why I suggested the honeycomb tile initially...like a beehive.
Yes. We like the neutral, the small tile, but maybe lean a bit brighter than the dull grey? Or not? But we do like this.
How adorable is this floor? Not for our kitchen, but super cute.
Not the tile type or style, but the less in your face color? It’s still a pop of color but could be pushed in different directions without screaming TURQUOISE! at you.
Like this? Smaller tiles, but an interesting shape paired with a plain border? The neutral color here is nice, too, but still has some variation.
If we go with a less interesting tile, laying it out on point could make it more interesting and unique. We are open to that idea. Like, maybe a white/grayish 2-3” square tile on point with a darker grey or black rectangular border at the bottom? Maybe a glass rectangle for a modern surprise?
Too busy for backsplash, but color variation and tile shape look interesting to us.
The color pops here are less dramatic, but still interesting.
Our dream was Pewabic tiles, the seemingly random colors and shapes here are super fun. Not sure it really blends with the 50s vibe...but it’s the artisanal look that we like.
The variation in color is nice here too. Probably too bold of a color, but that hand painted/glazed look is nice. This keeps popping up. Maybe a tiny rectangular tile is ok. Are these 1” tall or so? Like 1x4”? Maybe we would be ok. Still too bright to read neutral, but maybe.
Not the style we want, but those pops of red tile in an otherwise blah color? That’s cool.
Not the shape, but maybe the color? This reads more neutral to me, but still has interest...and I’m wondering if we should use whatever color we select for the tile as the color for the bench?
We like the color, but are afraid it’s too bold. However, the blend of colors and variation is really nice. The scummy green to turquoise all works. Something with interesting shape and variation like this maybe?
The way this blends countertop color into backsplash is nice, but the high gloss is not for us.
I like the idea of this tile in that it’s neutral, but it’s too busy.
Tile color and shape
Interesting tile shape, maybe a dark grout like this can add more interest to a less exciting tile?
Shape of the tiles, not color. Too intense. But the interlocking shapes are cool.
We don’t mind industrial linoleum tiles, these colors are a little intense, but the idea isn’t horrible.
I like the different sized tiles here, but am afraid that a black floor would be too dark and show every crumb and piece of pet hair. This also looks like slate, not what we want as far as materials.
Kitchen flooring, maybe a linoleum option? I like the black and white, but it’s less expected than the black and white check?
Color and windows, both great. Not orange, but bright and unexpected is good.
Interesting glass details
Fun color
With frosted or pebbled glass maybe?
We like how unique this is with the placement of windows and wood detailing.
Fun color
Something like this with centered windows?
Love the unexpected color, and it resembles one of the first doors we liked
A single door like this would be ok too. We actually really like the idea of glass block surrounding the front door with a solid door and small window or peep hole, but that’s not in the budget.
Super fun...but not in keeping with anything else style wise. We just like it.
We like the filtered/textured glass on this.
This is interesting too, but we would need a peep hole or something added.
We like the different window in this. Are struggling with finding something we think provides some additional light, without turning it into a fishbowl, and still being secure.
Making a note here because it reminds me...the countertop adds the color here, and while not inexpensive to replace, could be replaced as tastes change. The cabinets are more neutral (we don’t like these per say) but could remain. Likewise the appliances that have a shorter lifespan could be replaced with standard appliances.
Hells to the no.
Interesting to consider a bright color on the ceiling!
Another retro refrigerator that looks to have freezer on the bottom that is also likely to be expensive and oddly shaped and tough to replace down the line...
We like the sleek with the curves here. Counter looks easy to clean, unfussy. Handles on the cabinets look retro without being over the top. Room is neutral with pops of color that are consistent yet easily changed out. We have several pieces of art or framed prints that we would like to be considered as focus pieces as the project moves forward.
Tile backsplash. We’ve talked a little bit about using a smaller, retro looking tile that looks similar to the countertop or the bathroom floor tile to keep the 1950s vibe going. Not exactly like this, but it reminded me of that conversation.
We like the tile, but the colors of it? No way.
Again with over the top color. We no likey. I think the pops of color appeal to us, more unexpected surprises than a themed kitchen. Artful details rather than the full look-book.
These frosted cabinets lighten the upper area and are opaque enough to hide most of our mess, I think.
We appreciate the retro appliances and bold colors, but this is TOO MUCH. It looks like they were trying too hard for a theme, and came up with Disney’s version of a retro diner. No thank you.
Would a sliding or hidden door be possible or more functional for the hallway closet area?
Hallway option
