ISLES-MasterBath
The master bathroom tone is established by Carrera marble floors and walls of handmade glass mosaic tiles the color of water flecked with subtle streaks of dark red. A wall-hung wood vanity inspired by a piece of modernist furniture appears to float above the floor. Decorative light fixtures placed directly on the wall-to-wall mirrors bring together the tones of the wood cabinet, polished chrome plumbing fixtures and white porcelain sink. At the powder room, a backlit shoji screen in a narrow slot opposite the vanity was introduced as a lighting element, creating the impression of natural light from a window.
The new Nebia by Moen Spa Shower helps save water while still providing an enveloping feel. 8. Tech That Supports Your Lifestyle Manufacturers have been playing with and promoting smart technology for years, but at the 2020 shows it felt like brands were figuring out how to market products in ways that are actually useful to homeowners, rather than just creating tech for tech’s sake. For example, companies have invested in research and development to create various shower streams that save water while still providing an immersive, full-coverage experience. Moen partnered with Silicon Valley-based startup Nebia to create a spa-like shower (pictured here) that works by atomizing water — breaking it up into tiny droplets —to create the sensation of more water while actually using about 45% less. Another fun tech product was Moen’s new Aromatherapy hand shower, which has Keurig-style pods that infuse the stream with essential oils (four different kinds, from calm to energizing). Another big trend across brands is the integration of technology with partner brands, so that you can use a single app to control a host of devices and set a customized mood in your home. For instance, with...

**Master- Pebble tile for shower floor AND surrounding tub as "non-skid" surface when exiting tub. Porcelain plank tile looks nice with the pebble tile. Pebbles provide a slip-resistant surface. Worried about cleaning the pebbles in your own bath? Experts recommend applying a penetrating stone sealer after installation and using a mild detergent on a weekly basis
Bathroom Vanity Lighting Getting bathroom vanity lighting right can make getting ready in the morning a breeze. Properly positioned vanity lights should emit soft, diffuse light that reduces shadows and makes it easy for you to look your best. Light fixtures, pendants or sconces on both sides of a mirror will bring diffuse, even lighting to your bathroom vanity. Here’s how to create perfect vanity lighting.
Modern Natural- Lighting types used: Ambient, overhead, cove, pendant, undercabinet/toe kick Why it works: The abundance of natural ambient daylight that floods this bathroom is beautiful. At night, the overhead and cove lighting (not turned on in this daylight picture) provide a soft general lighting, while the pendant lights provide an even light at the face area. The undervanity light makes the room feel more spacious and adds a luxurious feel in this modern natural spa-like master bath. Pro tip: When you are in the design and planning phase of your project, it is important to wire for the lights in just the right places. Too close to the wall and you will get a hot spot of light on the wall. Too far from the wall and you risk bumping your head. If you have a 24-inch-deep vanity and countertop, plan to hang your pendant lights 12 inches on center from the finished wall surface, accounting for drywall and tile. This location on your ceiling will put the lights roughly on center relative to the vanity. As you can see in these beautiful examples of layering lighting to create a spa-like bathroom, you can achieve a luxurious look and feel with the right lighting. In addition to...
Zen Zone- Lighting types used: Overhead, pendant, LED mirrors Why it works: The recessed LED cove light in the tub and shower enclosure adds a rich element by washing the wall with light. In addition to ample recessed lighting, this modern bath features LED mirrors, which will light your face evenly. While the room is lacking in natural ambient light, the smart use of overhead, pendant, LED mirror and cove lighting together creates a soft lighting scene for a spa-like feel. Pro tip: Cove lighting, which is the hidden light in the recess in the shower, is a great way to get even light throughout the day and night, even with the absence of natural ambient light. By using LED strip lighting in the 2700K to 3000K color temperature range, you will get a very natural-looking light, any time of day.
Pro tip: Floating vanities are great for making a space appear larger and more open. This can be easily achieved by installing undercabinet or toe-kick lighting with LED strip lighting. Not only does the room feel grander, but it also gives you another layer of lighting to control to create a spa-like feel.
Pro tip: When planning your spa-style bathroom, consider the size and orientation of your windows. Large south- or west-facing windows will be subject to intense light throughout the day. Plan carefully and use the largest size that makes sense for your location, so that you can let in the most natural light.
Pro tip: When sourcing light bulbs and LED mirrors, be sure to select a warm white, which means a color temperature between 2700K and 3000K. This color temperature range will provide a glow comparable to the candlelight warmth of an incandescent bulb (remember those?), which is a natural-looking light, ideal for doing hair and makeup.
MASTER BATH LIGHTING FOR A SPA LIKE FEEL
BEACH STYLE !!!
The Driftwood Look- Advances in digital printing have brought us all kinds of possibilities for tile today. A favorite is a tile that resembles the soft and weathered look of beautiful driftwood. Using simple, unadorned forms like the minimalist freestanding bathtub, floating rectilinear vanity and clear glass shower surround puts the focus on the thoughtful mix of materials. Style note: Loose pebbles underneath the vanity correspond with the shower’s pebble tile floor.
FLOOR - CABINETS - COUNTERTOP - SHOWER GLASS - Pebbles & large tiles = beach path beige cabinets with slightly darker countertops Aqua glass = water VERY NICE COMBO!!!
A mini garden just outside the bathroom can bring some of the same magic within reach. Concerned about slipping? NOTE: pebble flooring. +Opt for a tub with a wider rim. It is easier to grip, and you can even sit on the edge and swing in your legs when entering and exiting the tub. For extra support, consider placing your bathtub near a wall and installing a grab bar.
pebble finish around tub is good for safety. nice look
Add niches to shower areas, for the practical storage capabilities & the beautiful accent. For a tub they make sense just above the tub surface, as you’ll be lying down when you reach for that shampoo, but in a shower they should be much higher, around 48 in., so you don’t have to lean down to reach anything. Place your shower controls around 42 to 48 in. at the center, and a tub filler 4 to 6 in. above the top of the tub.
Does the tub need to be on a riser to hide plumbing? I like the wall backsplash and niche
Add some pebble tile on wall behind bath tub with driftwood shelf.
**Master- Nice wall detail/pebble tile
tile for shower floors & under the Mstr bath tub
notes for shower alternative
**Wall niche for tub has small ledge to resist water stains on wall
**The options now available with LED lighting offer great opportunities for layering your light. For instance, miniature 1W LED fittings can be used to create low-level accent lighting in niches, on ledges and in the floor. Building your lighting up in layers will give you a richer scheme as well as offering the option of different lighting scenes, including late-night dim settings ideal for a relaxing soak.
VANITY - ADD side junction box for wall mounted magnification mirror
Spa 'get-away': with pebbles and stepping stones underfoot-- rocks in landscape & greenery climbing the cement/grey rock wall.... bamboo & reed chair.... you could be in a Bali day spa..
