Fireplace
The mantle is stained wood and darker than the floors, although the floorboards are painted.
Rustic doesn't work. Also do not like mantle being both painted and stained.
Wood floor extends to fireplace stone - no hearth.
Stone is wrapped around bump-in.
Bump-in has different texture - similar to siding - than the rest of the walls. No other fireplace surround.
Stone extends width of bump-in. Mantle extends width of stone and bump-in. A wall surface is above mantle
Tile is busy, predominantly light. Floor inset contrasts, predominantly dark
Drywall surrounds fireplace. Drywall extends into room
Rectangular stones might avoid the rustic look
Wrap around stone
Only example seen so far of "hearth" tile being beveled.
"Hearth" tile wrapping around would take up a lot of space.
simple mantle. side to side proportions work
What are tile dimensions? Proportion is one width along sides, and 2 at top. This gives room for raising fireplace 1 tile height.
Proportions are close to working. Box should be a bit higher, and mantle's horizontal piece a bit lower. Symmetrical side to side is okay.
The dark tile around the fireplace is nice.
The wall 'cutting off' above the fireplace looks odd.
Craftsman: The proportions work, but are they 'dated'? I don't like the square above the legs.
Under Craftsman. Simple legs protrude slightly deeper into the room. Floor tile seems to extend too far.
Is this a 2nd image of the fireplace saved with comment re: flat paint ant legs blend with wall? Note, no floor tile, so decision about where it starts and ends is necessary.
If we cannot decide how to frame box, edge to edge tile could work. Need to decide best shape tile for "square" fireplace box.
Stone. This does work.
Are legs wallboard or wood? Paint appears to be matte, like walls. Legs extend into the room beyond the tile. Unit looks finished.
Has tile. Molding frames void next to unit.
Fireplace is slightly above floor. Note proportions of surrounding tile.
Tile is framed by molding - entire width covers "bump out".
Colors of tile are not detracting. Not good: Floor tile etends beyond the width of the mantle.
Colors of tile are not detracting.
Corner fireplace! Surrounded by dark tile, which is surrouded by white molding. Mantle is separate, but at appropriate height. Fireplace is set on ground. ? floor tile in front?
Too austere
Good aspects: Surrounded by tile and raised off the floor. Floor 'hearth' is tile. Poor aspects: Mantle and legs are too substantial and they protrude into the room.
Tile is framed by molding - first time we have seen this. Floor tile extends to bookshelves; for us it could extend to edge of molding.
If entire wall is the same surface, there is not need for a mantle.
Different width of floor tile compared to wall components
Don't necessarily like mantle and legs. Note width of floor tile compared to wall components - how prevalent is this?
first example
Mantle "frames" lower portion, molding frames wallboard above.
