Master Bathroom Remodel
Not sure if I would want a rectangular built in bench like this but it is worth considering. This appears recessed so I don’t think I can get this look. Rich - Could have a full bench seat at toilet separation wall, but with a 1/2 heightwall per earlier "like" shared. Allison, yes, I like the idea of a full bench at toilet separation, assuming it still allowed for one person shower movement easily. Ideally there would still be a niche for shampoo/shaving cream, etc. so the bench is free of "stuff."
The half between toilet and walk in shower allows more division between spaces and privacy. Rich - What do you think about this over the toilet shelf?.....this is lots less costly than a floating type...if brushed nickel instead of ORB frame would be "more invisible". Allison, I’m good with no more floating shelves. I added a photo of a towel rack I like, looks kind of like the kind you see over toilets in hotels.
AWalk in shower with rectangle design Rich- The glass fasteners to wall and ceiling can either be a bracket as shown in this photo, or else a long U-channel....but 1 of the 2 types is needful. These are what you were seeing in my CAD photo's when camera was in tub looking South. Allison, the floor of the shower is smooth with the rest of the floor. Is it better to be “lifted” like our current shower? Is there more risk of water leaking as in the photo? Rich - The step is a stronger fixed stop point....arguably better if that area of the shower is seeing high water flow. Smooth is not to be equated as totally level floor...this is a handicap access design...viewed up close the floor is pitched to the drain. This particular shower is around 5 feet deep....so little chance of high flow showerhead water at the doorway resulting in less of a ramp needed. So, both styles work, the smooth entry requires additional attention to detail than the 95% of showers designed with a curb, as the under tile water membrane needs to extend past the opening...just in case. If glass door was on side wall in this photo, the floor would have to be ramped significantly more than you see in this app...Allis...
Rich- A hexagon floor tile, subway shower walls...the color tone of the floor tile is complimented by the paint color. We could do a 1/2 wall of tile on East wall....would distract the eye from looking at toilet only. Allison - when you say a 1/2 wall of tile, do you mean a 1/2 wall of the subway tile, not the hexagon tile, right? Because I've been thinking that it will be an adjustment to walk into the room and see the toilet right there vs. now it's behind a corner. Rich- The pattern will be appropriate to the theme...as done in this photo is very nice. With room layout there was no other choice to toilet location so we much work with it...but it is a bathroom...not like a toilet is in the center of a living room:).
Rich- In this room the floor is an earthy gray, and the designer tweaked the other room elements accordingly....in the previous pic the gray was a cooler tone....so the parts make the whole come together. Just sharing these photos to help you prepare for the next design stages. Allison - this room is gorgeous, very well done. I would say I lean more toward the cooler tones but appreciate this photo nonetheless. Rich- This floor is very common....and proof here not to rule out a single element till you see it combined with the room theme. Now compare this room with the floor border pic 2 photos over and that wall is not as detailed at all room areas and has less contrast of color...great feedback this helps alot.
Rich- Here is a subway tile floor border used with a standard 12" square field tile....takes a "boring square tile" and really unifies that with the shower pattern and well as making the floor look very traditional. Allison - I am very interested in a tile floor border and I remember you mentioning it in an earlier email. As long as that kind of definition doesn't make the small master bath look even smaller vs. trying to give it more destintion and make it go from a plain white bathroom to a stunning MB. Rich-A border makes the floor art like...IMO a border never makes the floor look smaller.
Rich- This is traditional with transitional elements to my eye...just sharing to demonstrate how tile is a part of the room theme...but other elements like the lights in this room play just as functional a role...as do the cabinets, the tub is very transitional...the group as a whole is more important than any individual part. My opinion as a designer....is if you can provide a photo of your single greatest like....is that look more refined as this bath is....more vintage....more cottage....they all can be transitioned within a traditional theme....but in helping to assemble pieces to achieve the look you like most....it is needful to know what that look is....and photo's are the most universal means of you communicating your primary like.
Rich- All marble floor, subway in the shower, and white cabinets with rectangle mosaic in the niche. The designer took the gray from the floor and carried to the shower with a wall color to compliment...the white grout reflects the cabinet and tub color. Allison - this is breathtaking, however, the white grout scares me. I prefer darker grout b/c it hides dirt, wear and tear, etc. or at least it makes me think it will be more forgiving. I think this is prettier to look at than live in but again very well done. Rich- An Epoxy type of white grout is lifetime stainproof. So is glazed white tile stain absorbent proof...but dirt sitting on a surface will show on anything white...whether it wipes right off or not.
Rich- This wall tile pattern I placed to the soap niche of 1 CAD pic...used in a large area I am thinking it more refined than you are wanting? You know best, just sharing the idea. Allison - this wall tile is attractive but too trendy to me, I could see myself getting tired of it in a few years when it's been way overdone, the moroccon look.
Rich- Allison....just a heads up that Franziska had a strong like toward Marble....which is why/how I showed you a CAD example. I shared you preferred traditional subway tile and Franziska is fine with that. Any I am placing this pic to the book for a photo aide. Floor tile again resembles the Anne Sacks pic....the black square is smaller and the overall color of the tile is more white. Allison - I will need to ask her if she likes marble for heated tile flooring too bc that is where i would be the most concerned. I do like the floor tile in this photo, it's very nice.
Rich- Floor tile appears to be the Anne Sacks Carrera Mosaics Weave pattern. Allison-pretty but I think it is a marble product and I thought we were staying aware from marble flooring.Rich- Far as I could tell Gerhard's 3 tile suppliers only had this look available in Marble....lets see what Franziska can come up with.
Rich - Same project bath...a better view of shower....note how a veined marble top is an option that can work if cloudburst caesarstone does not pan out. Allison - I just got the cloudburst concrete sample in tonight and will be looking at it at different times of the day and seeing if I can live with it. I am trying to stay far away from the "marble look" bc we managed to do it very well in the kitchen with the noble gray caesarstone and I would just prefer to go in a different direction and not make comparisons in addition to avoiding marble as a nondurable product. Rich- Copy the aesthetic preference...but as to durability quartz and porcelain looking marble has no concerns
Attractive collection from alyse Edwards website, not sure of material though.
This has more interest than the typical subway tile.
Rich- a photo of fixed panel to ceiling with door at lower height. Allison - I like it. It seems more splash proof than the one I put on houzz.
Rich -wainscot tub face visual aid
Rich - My original thought was to use a high quality "frameless" bi-pass door system such as this type. Donovan Mirror and Glass in Brookfield shows 2 similar types on their web site. 1 side is fixed....the other side is the operator....similar to a patio door.
Rich - another pattern of white mesh on white frame
Rich - white mesh on white cabinet
the 800 series is the same dimensions but more bells and whistles for an additional $800
could this replace the space with the existing linen closet? All storage could be with pull out drawers in vanity and linen closet in hallway.
Simple white ceramic sink is fine. Oval vs. rectangular. Not sure of dimension needed.
Simple transitional look
Attractive lighting option
I like that the linen closet is set back from the countertop. I also like how there are 2 sets of door panels to the linen closet.
Seriously considering heated flooring in the master bath remodel. For use during the cold winter and spring months. Not sure if I would go with hydronic "dry" installation or electric.
Cabinetry is furniture quality. Lighting and wall mirrors are very attractive.
I like how the storage area (closet sort of) is 2 tiered. Hamper for dirty laundry in the bottom section. I like how the cabinetry has fitted the mirrors in, probably a very high upgrade for this look.
Not sure what kind of mirror I want. 1 big vs. 2 smaller. Probably something simple without elaborate framing.
Floor?
For the floor? Not sure marble is good for the floor, thought porcelain or ceramic?
Nice simple flat panel cabinets with white quartz countertop.
Pure white Caesarstone, a possible option for vanity countertop plus areas around tub/shower.
Caesarstone pure white for vanity countertop, maybe for areas around bathtub too.
A glass door option if we do a tub/shower combo.Rich- If not a full glass enclosure....this is the only partial glass enclosure that has any chance of keeping your floor dry. The opening is small however and the showerhead is pointed straight down....in any other instance without full enclosure your floor would get soaked.
This clear glass door might be a good option if we do a tub/shower combo as displayed in these photos.
I like this color and size. Not sure if i want glossy vs. matte.
I like the simple, transitional fronts on the cabinets. I want white, double sink vanity with white quartz. We currently have 83” of counter top.
I like double sinks, white cabs, white countertops. Need to check dimensions. I don't think a prefab vanity would work d/t the dimensions and wanting a linen closet/storage.
I like the classic white subway tile with dark grout on the wall and shower.
What are the dimensions of this w and d?
Is there room for stacked w and d where existing linen closet is?
1” hex from 21st century tile for niche and chair rail.
