The wood clad wall extends through the living/kitchen/dining space and out to a private garden and mother-in-law unit at the rear of the narrow lot.

Meeting code requirements for outlets in the kitchen can be a challenge with nice tile backslashes and on islands with the countertop folding down the sides. It's a shame to muck up these surfaces with outlets. In this case, we used plugmold strips by LeGrand under the upper cabinets as you guessed. We also used plugmold strips between the cabinet and countertop on the working side of the island. The plugmold srips are available in brushed stainless and anodized aluminum as well as painted finishes so they are not bad looking.
