FLIES ...Anyway, I was living in the house with a group of artists and we had an art business teaching painting and selling paints etc....I couldn't stand the flies, green tree frogs in the kitchen OK but not FLIES. One of the girls with us read up on what colours deterred what insects.....Flies hate bright yellow-orange! So we got it together and painted the whole big kitchen a bright yellow-orange which we mixed up ourselves because we could not find it in any paint catalogue and it had to be the right hue. Guess what? NO MORE FLIES and all the windows open! It works even with a square of either ply or heavy card painted on both sides and dangling from a string from the ceiling where the breeze will twirl it around. A creative person might be able to design some sort of decorative whirlygig thing that would not look so silly. I have painted my present kitchen in the same yellow/orange...no screens here either. This might be something you can use.
