John Todd Bishop Interior DesignThe watery Venetian damask from Zoffany sets the mood for this Pied a Terre bedroom. We wrapped the room in a color pulled from the paper, even the doors and moldings are in this color. The wallpaper softens the hard lines of the industrial style metal bed from CB2. To purists the placement of the refurbished Mid Century nightstands with the wallpaper may seem inappropriate, but I think the nightstands are a tailored response to the exuberance of the paper. Also, if you watch TCM on a regular basis you would see such mixes all the time. The Chinese Mirror and Japanese prints reflect my client's interest in Asia and add another layer to the mix.

LABLstudioA West Village Bachelor pad bedroom, featuring a hand-painted geometric design that highlights the pre-war features of the space, like the picture moldings. Additionally, because the client wanted both a work space and a place to put his TV (the pre-war wall could not hold a wall mounted tv!), we designed a custom desk/console piece out of reclaimed wood and metal hairpin legs that served both purposes, and fit the space perfectly.

Breathe Design StudioOur Austin studio decided to go bold with this project by ensuring that each space had a unique identity in the Mid-Century Modern style bathroom, butler's pantry, and mudroom. We covered the bathroom walls and flooring with stylish beige and yellow tile that was cleverly installed to look like two different patterns. The mint cabinet and pink vanity reflect the mid-century color palette. The stylish knobs and fittings add an extra splash of fun to the bathroom.
The butler's pantry is located right behind the kitchen and serves multiple functions like storage, a study area, and a bar. We went with a moody blue color for the cabinets and included a raw wood open shelf to give depth and warmth to the space. We went with some gorgeous artistic tiles that create a bold, intriguing look in the space.
In the mudroom, we used siding materials to create a shiplap effect to create warmth and texture – a homage to the classic Mid-Century Modern design. We used the same blue from the butler's pantry to create a cohesive effect. The large mint cabinets add a lighter touch to the space.

Catherine S. Grasso, Design For LivingI was able to create this room fairly inexpensively by purchasing printed versions of iconic photos, ready made drapery panels and bedspread, Ikea sofa, chair and floor lamp. What brought the cost up is the vintage 1970's lucite table base with a glass top which will withstand the test of time in terms of design.
I love mixing colors with their opposites on the color wheel, in this case blue with orange.
The bedroom leads into a shared jack and jill style bathroom designed in classic finishes with a few modern touches.
