Kitchens by Good GuysThe home was a very outdated Southwest style with Aztec architectural elements, and it was time for a transformation to the beautiful modern style you see now. We ripped out all the flooring throughout, squared off and removed a lot of the Aztec styled elements in the home, redesigned the fireplace and opened up the kitchen. In the kitchen, we opened up a wall that made the kitchen feel very closed in, allowing us room to make a more linear and open kitchen. Opening up the kitchen and its new layout allowed us to create a large accent island that is truly a statement piece. Our clients hand selected every finish you see, including the rare granite that has beautiful pops of purple and waterfall edges. To create some contrast, the island has a pretty neutral taupe acrylic cabinetry and the perimeter has textured laminate cabinets with a fun white geometric backsplash. Our clients use their TV in their kitchen, so we created a custom built in just for their TV on the backwall. For the fireplace to now match the homes new style, we reshaped it to have sleek lines and had custom metal pieces acid washed for the center with stacked stone on the sides for texture. Enjoy!

Treske LtdA 1950s influenced design that features flush door panels and recessed handles. The kitchen is made from a delightful mix of solid elm, framing doors that have been painted Little Green 'Sage Green 80' and is on show in our Thirsk showrooms.
Copper is used throughout the design. On the feature curved doors of the tall corner display cabinet and on the cabinet below solid copper handles have been used. Elsewhere the recessed handles have a thin strip of aged copper applied to the back of the recess giving durability and a great visual effect. Copper faced kickboards are used as a juxtaposition against some made from elm. However the main copper feature comes from the artisan copper leaded glass that gives beautiful access to the glazed and well lit cupboards.
The kitchen island design incorporates the dual control Aga as well as wine and other storage. The worktops are made from a granite called Orinoco, a highly prized and distinctively patterned worksurface.

Granite countertops can last a lifetime. It contains no harmful chemicals and do not emit harmful radiation or gasses. Granite is heat resistant and is one of the most heat-resistant countertops on the market. You can place a hot pan out of the oven directly onto the countertop surface. Experts do recommend the use of a trivet when using appliances that emit heat for long periods of time, such as crockpots. Since the material is so dense, there is a small possibility heating one area of the top and not the entire thing, could cause the countertop to crack.
Granite is scratch resistant. You can cut on it, but it will dull your knives! Granite scores a seven on Moh’s hardness scale.
Granite countertops are considered to be a low maintenance countertop surface. The likelihood of needing to be repaired or resurfaced is low. Granite is a porous material. Most fabricators will apply a sealer to granite countertops before they are installed which will protect them from absorbing liquids too quickly. Many sealers last more than 10 years before needing to be reapplied. When they do need to be reapplied, it is something that most homeowners can do on their own as the process is similar to cleaning. Darker granites are very dense and sometimes don’t even require a sealer.
When it comes to pricing, there are a lot of variables such as edge profile, total square footage, backsplash, etc. Don’t be fooled by the stereotype that all granite is expensive. Lower-range granites will cost less than high-range laminate. Though granite countertops are not considered “low range” in pricing, there are a lot of affordable options.
If you are looking for something truly unique, consider an exotic granite. Some quarries are not easily accessible and/or only able to be quarried for short periods of time throughout the year. If these circumstances exist in a quarry with gorgeous stone, the price will be driven upward
You won’t find a lot of solid patterns or bright colors, but both do exist. Also, watch for a large range of color and pattern within the same color of stone. It’s always a good idea to view the exact slab(s) that will be fabricated for your kitchen to make sure they are what you expected to see from the sample. Another factor is that many exotic types of granite have huge flowing waves, and a small sample will not be an accurate representation of the whole slab.
Granite countertops are very resistant to chemicals. Acids and bases will not harm the material.

JKL Development Inc.This 5687 sf home was a major renovation including significant modifications to exterior and interior structural components, walls and foundations. Included were the addition of several multi slide exterior doors, windows, new patio cover structure with master deck, climate controlled wine room, master bath steam shower, 4 new gas fireplace appliances and the center piece- a cantilever structural steel staircase with custom wood handrail and treads.
A complete demo down to drywall of all areas was performed excluding only the secondary baths, game room and laundry room where only the existing cabinets were kept and refinished. Some of the interior structural and partition walls were removed. All flooring, counter tops, shower walls, shower pans and tubs were removed and replaced.
New cabinets in kitchen and main bar by Mid Continent. All other cabinetry was custom fabricated and some existing cabinets refinished. Counter tops consist of Quartz, granite and marble. Flooring is porcelain tile and marble throughout. Wall surfaces are porcelain tile, natural stacked stone and custom wood throughout. All drywall surfaces are floated to smooth wall finish. Many electrical upgrades including LED recessed can lighting, LED strip lighting under cabinets and ceiling tray lighting throughout.
The front and rear yard was completely re landscaped including 2 gas fire features in the rear and a built in BBQ. The pool tile and plaster was refinished including all new concrete decking.

Dorfman Design BuildersThe Owner's charge was to create a Black & White kitchen that was RED all over. Michael Johnson Cabinetmaker did a superb job of fabricating the cabinets and even more importantly finishing them to our specifications. The black and white checkerboard ceramic tile floor added to the color pattern. The 1x1 Interstyle red tile inlaid into the Interstyle white tile backsplash brought even more red to the project. The stainless steel Wolf Range with the red knobs contributed not only a great cooking system but a splash of red to the project. The glass block window replaced a smaller window in order to bring more natural light into the space without compromising privacy.
Artistry in Glass3/4" back painted glass top. Installed with stainless steel standoffs and custom made stainless legs.

Our modern farm style home design was exactly what our clients were looking for. They had the charm and the landscape they wanted, but needed a boost to help accommodate a family of four. Our design saw us tear down their existing garage and transform the space into an entertaining family friendly kitchen. This addition moved the entry of the home to the other side and switched the view of the kitchen on the side of the home with more natural light. As for the ceilings, we went ahead and changed the traditional 7’8” ceilings to a 9’4” ceiling. Our decision to approach this home with smart design resulted in removing the existing stick frame roof and replacing it with engineered trusses to have a higher and wider roof, which allowed for the open plan to be implemented without the use of supporting beams. And once the finished product was complete, our clients had a home that doubled in space and created many more opportunities for entertaining and relaxing in style.
