ZeroEnergy DesignModern loft. Surfaces built into the new railing atop the stair create a functional work area with a fantastic view and clear shot to the play space below. A wall separating the master bedroom from the double height living space was replaced with a folding glass door to open the bedroom to the living space while still allowing for both visual and acoustical privacy.

Culshaw Kitchen MakersThis Mid Century inspired kitchen was manufactured for a couple who definitely didn't want a traditional 'new' fitted kitchen as part of their extension to a 1930's house in a desirable Manchester suburb.
The walk in pantry was fitted into a bricked up recess previously occupied by a range. U-shaped shelves and larder racks mean there is plenty of storage for food meaning none needs to be stored in the kitchen cabinets. Strip LED lighting illuminates the interior.

Renovation ConceptsThis room was formerly a tiled cold space with angled walls, no storage and cables lying around everywhere. Our brief was to integrate an extremely large television and audio visual equipment, and to include a fireplace and interesting storage for objects d'art. There were significant challenges with the space, however the end result is a warm, inviting and seamless space where none of the telltale signs of modern AV technology are on display except for the TV itself (which is flush-mounted and backlit by warm LED strip lighting), and the sub-woofer concealed in its own housing but still open to allow for airflow. We incorporated four separate deep niches and wrapped each in textured vinyl, meticulously applied to ensure the horizontal lines flowed continuously, and lit them with a warm glow from concealed LED strip lighting. The incredible open fronted fireplace was selected to match the width of the TV exactly, and has is deceptively deep. We finished this with a solid granite hearth. Clever cupboards with push to open hardware conceal all of the rest of the technology and equipment. The room is furnished with two 4 seat soft leather chesterfield style lounges and fruitwood coffee and side tables. A large window streams winter sunlight in making the entire room glow.

We were brought into this project just as the major remodel was underway, allowing us to bring together a feature-rich audio/video and automation system with elegant integration into the spaces. This system provides simple control and automation of the lights, climate, audio/video, security, video surveillance, and door locks. The homeowner can use their iPads or iPhones to control everything in their home, or when away.

The living room echoes the neutral palette with beige walls while the dining room flaunts a statement metal and glass chandelier. The look is complete with a carpeted master bedroom featuring dark wood furniture.

Angus Mackenzie ArchitectThe house was originally a single story face brick home, which was ‘cut in half’ to make two smaller residences. It is on a triangular corner site, and is nestled in between a unit block to the South, and large renovated two storey homes to the West. The owners loved the original character of the house, and were keen to retain this with the new proposal, but felt that the internal plan was disjointed, had no relationship to the paved outdoor area, and above all was very cold in Winter, with virtually no natural light entering the house.
The existing plan had the bedrooms and bathrooms on the side facing the outdoor area, with the living area on the other side of the hallway. We swapped this to have an open plan living room opening out onto a new deck area. An added bonus through the design stage was adding a rumpus room, which was built to the boundary on two sides, and also leads out onto the new deck area. Two large light wells open into the roof, and natural light floods into the house through the skylights above. The automated skylights really help with airflow, and keeping the house cool in the Summer. Warm timber finishes, including cedar windows and doors have been used throughout, and are a low key inclusion into the existing fabric of the house.
