Bonzai Room - Reston, VA
This newly-created Mud Room/Green Lab was an added benefit to a kitchen remodeling project. It was designed from an existing 9'x5' garage storage space previously unaccessible via the main house. The clients requested, if possible to create a new space for their Bonsai Tree collection. Obviously, the plants needed water, day light and easy outside access.
The kitchen space was also a bit too small. Fortunately, the size of the garage itself gave us the possibility to move the entire back wall inside without sacrificing the parking ability. New supporting beams were calculated by the structural engineer. Enlarging the previous storage allowed us to consider it a “Mud room/Green Lab"and provide the connection between the new spaces.
