BDAA Awards 2017 - New residential buildings over 450 sqm and over $2000 / sqm
The home was designed to sit centrally on the site with a generous 12m front setback, sympathetic to the streetscape and allowing for landscaping to establish the desired garden setting. The building footprint is heavily influenced by the retained tree in the backyard. Managing the 3m slope of the block whilst minimising unsightly retaining walls, the plan has been arranged over a series of small split levels enabling each level to access outdoor living spaces and garden views. Formal living spaces are located at the front of the house with spacious everyday family spaces placed at the rear where they enjoy the best sunlight the block has to offer, the best views and connection to large garden and outdoor entertaining spaces. The design is influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright, with low pitched hipped roofs, generous eaves, masonry construction, strong horizontal lines, elegant window proportions and strong integration with the landscape.
