17th Century Cottage
This is a beautiful 17th century cottage in a small village in Berkshire, England. It would originally have been a labourer’s cottage with the ground floor set aside for the animals! It is now an elegant home for a family of five, preserving many of its original features whilst making it a home fit for the 21st century.
The family had moved from a modern detached house to the home of their dreams, however it was in a poor state of repair and décor. The first eighteen months were spent making structural improvements and ensuring all the services were modernized. When a property is this old it usually needs specialist help to ensure that any changes made are both in keeping with the house aesthetics and won’t upset the balance of the environment. Even though this house isn’t listed, the owner’s were keen to create a home that reflected its heritage.
I was called in when, after making all the improvements needed to make it comfortable, it still looked drab and dreary inside. The brief was to create a period home that was stylish and could accommodate a busy family life. As you can see the results are stunning and the client’s were delighted with the result. They have written a glowing testimonial.
