Hardwood or engineered wood?

Jennifer Reynolds
hace 9 años
We are redoing our wood flooring in our home. This includes family room, kitchen, foyer, living and dining rooms. Our current floor was engineered hardwood and lasted 15 years. However it's now time to replace it. We're pretty hard on our floor so I was leaning toward engineered. My husband thinks hardwood.

Any thoughts on what's better? Pros/cons?

Thanks in advance.

if there is much humidity where you live, engineered tends to be better.

For resale value go with real hardwood as Dytecture advices, but nothing wrong with engineered word floors IMO. We protect ours using area rugs. Even with hardwood, i still protected it using area rugs...especially in wintertime. I luv our current wood floors, but it takes SELF disicipline...for example, take off shoes before walking on them

Solid hardwood if you can. As already mentioned an engineered floor should be used for climates with a lot of humidity. High quality engineered flooring can be site finished just like solid flooring. Email me for a full wood flooring consultation! joel@oakandbroad.com

Solid will have more resale value however, here in South Florida, engineered wood is expected and preferred. It holds up better to the weather as well as our active lifestyles. You may want to opt for a material with a larger wear layer so that you can sand it down and refinish it in the future if you choose to.
