Before & After: An indoor-outdoor transformation
My clients approached me with a dream vision of their new home/office. It had to incorporate key features, being a solid sandstone border wall, underground concrete water tank and they wanted the overall feel to be inclusive in their much loved rural community setting. The concepts needed to be bespoke, elegant & quality driven.
As a team, we began to design and throw around ideas with the long-term result as our focus. It had to age well, so knowing their current home was feeling a little outdated, we began with the current footprint in mind. It was time to make some magic happen.
So with the rural town concept in mind, we evolved our Modern Country designs together to ensure we included all their specific needs. and wanted to make sure the house had a Modern Country feel to it. It’s no easy task to spend years developing the design and build plans, but the results are so well worth it!

The first task was a new Garage. So we didn’t just build a garage, but we made sure there was loft storage above the ceiling as well, and an Airbnb option as a spare room at the back. Functional and good-looking!
The second part of the build was to install a 90,000L concrete underground tank under an aggregate driveway, concealing the tank and linking the street to the Garage. Not so exciting sounding, but we wanted to make sure it was exciting looking. The site was so tight for the tank and there were so many bespoke elements to the design that this proved to be no easy task.
We needed to make sure there were plumbing and drainage was maximised from house to tank, an automated irrigation system in the landscaping and the end result was something that the clients were extremely happy with. We decided that a custom motorised Knotwood sliding slat gate was perfect, elegant, no maintenance & it allowed them to see through the slats to passers. This was then complemented by the solid feature Gosford Sandstone dry stack wall as the main feature for the landscaping. We also had to cater to a 100mm fall over and a 13-meter run-off length to the street which we achieved.

We also made sure the outdoor space was inviting and relaxing for the family to enjoy, so we included some space to unwind and enjoy the sunshine that complimented the sandstone and timber textures.

The end result is a happy client and a happy home!

hace 4 añosI'm obviously weird . Three things that I find strange --
-- Wouldn't you do the tank before building the garage and Air B N B ? Makes everything easier , and if you are worried that the tank won't stand up to utes and trucks driving over it , then its probably going to give problems at some stage anyway ?
-- Why do the garage door in timber ; the gate in what looks like 'plasticated timber' or maybe its painted , not stained , and then the roof thing in a different style and colour and roof pitch ? The fence down the right hand boundary looks unstained -- are they going to leave it like that , or maybe add a 4th brown , or maybe charcoal ? The roof thing looks like pavers , in another colour again ( plus personally I dont like pavers -- they move and wobble in time ) .
Me , as a complete amateur , I love the concept and most of the execution , with the exception of that roof thing ( do you call it a pergoda ? ) . Floor would be in the same aggregate concrete as the drive if I was doing it . A built in BBQ and/or fire pit in a wall ( or 2 shorter walls making a corner ) , done in the limestone and render , with the grey gutters . The roof only over half the area -- the rest in a pergola ( open ) style , made of the same timber and same stain as the garage door ( and obviously the automatic gate would have been specified exactly the same ) . The smaller part of the roof in a steeper pitch , with a fake shutter to match the garage . The pergola in a flatter style . Me -- I'd add a spa or similar too .
Basically -- have one person design and execute it , not a 'team' .
