Is this a listed property?

Hi we have a similar looking farmhouse in Cornwall which we'd dearly like to update and extend... but its Grade Two listed. I wondered if this was, and if so whether you had any advice? Jane Reynolds

    Hi Jane: no, that property was not listed. As you may already have found out, with proposed alterations to historic properties a great deal depends on the mentality of the conservation officers at the relevant planning department. For example with the glass extension to a Grade II* listed house in North Yorkshire which we also have on our website at www.jeffkahane.com/#!/Projects/Residential/Glass Extension, North Yorkshire the head of the conservation team told our clients that the council would be delighted to approve a glazed extension to replace the existing tumble-down timber framed conservatory at the rear of the house as long as the design was modern, well thought-through, sensitive to the 'host' building and made no attempt whatsoever at pastiche Georgian styling. We spent a considerable time evolving the design in co-operation with our clients and on submission it was granted listed building approval at the first attempt with no requests for even minor modifications. That process was a welcome and wonderful breath of fresh air, given the attitudes of many conservation and design officers! Hope this helps.....
