kitchen countertops with or without attached backsplash????

We plan on updating our countertops. The problem is trying to decide if we should have the new countertop with a backsplash (4"edge) or if we do without this edge and add a different backsplash. Which would look better, without the backsplash edge or with????

If you want the edge, then do not add other back splash. If you want a tile backsplash, then add just that

    Your options are:

-Full backsplash with the same stone

-4'' backsplash with the stone and paint the rest of the wall

    -Tile backsplash

Thank you, I can't afford granite, so I am going with a "granite look", just can't decide on the with or without attached backsplash. This is one view of the old countertop!!! The spices will be gone, lol

Still, what WS Granite said holds -- if having this 4" backsplash has been sufficient in the past (and/or useful as a ledge), then do that. But if you want a higher backsplash and/or the look of tile back there, then skip the 4" of counter material. A combination looks like an afterthought.

Just tile backsplash no 4” piece

the space is fairly small between counter top and cabinets, that the 4" piece makes it look "crowded".

Bottom of cupboards to countertop is 16 1/4 " with out the backsplash

With that shorter than normal span between bottom of cupboards and countertop, I'd definitely skip the 4" attached piece. Much cleaner, up to date look. When you get the countertop templated, make sure they're clear that there will be no attached backsplash, and will therefore need to be very precise on the cut, with tight fit against the wall.

Skip the riser and tile instead.

Budget, Space & style. Tiles splashes are less expensive than the matchie splash, opens up the space and creativity in action. BUT if money is no problem use the same material all the way up the splash wall. 3cm tops with 1 cm splash. Laminate top with sheet laminate wall. Mirroring can give a great allusions also.Design On,
