If you could have a secret room, which would you pick?

I remember being fascinated by 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' as a child.

Mostly because of the magical winter wonderland that was only accessible through a hidden storage cabinet.

How amazing would it be to have a secret room in your home? If you could have one, what would you choose - and what would you use it for?

    Through one of these doors in the mermaid wardrobe is our door into the workshop from the showroom. Definatly entering a place of magic.

      We'd have to say a play/games room because you can do so much with that sort of idea. Play room in the day and games room in the evening. Also depending on the style of the rest of the house you could make the secret room something totally different and fun!

      We'd agree with NuCasa too about the play/games room as whilst it sounds like it is more for children if you manage to get the decoration right with storage areas then as mentioned you could easily have this for a different purpose in the evening. We too also loved The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe too and did check the wardrobe many times just to check if there was another hidden world :-)

      Hello Ocean,

      Yes the chronicles of Narnia were one of about a squillion books I read and loved.. I have a wardrobe like the one in the book but it's not filled with fur coats! It does though, lead to another world well, at least my cats think so as they go in and it can be several hours before they surface again! So I guess it is filled with fur of sorts!

      My secret room, I would say probably a library room/study with an under floor wine cellar... Huge open fire in the room and designed and decorated by me of course with the most beautiful of finishings and furnishings... : ))

      It's got to be a secret wine cellar to entertain and socialise with guests. Although we did design and fabricate these bespoke cupboard doors recently that hid a messy media centre from a beautifully refurbished sitting room. More images coming soon.

      From a home bar to a hidden pantry there's always a little nook where you can stash away goodies to share with friends.

      I already have one, or possibly two. One is the door to the "vault" sorry utility room

      and the other is the door to the room I'm not sure what to do with, which is currently another sort of sitting room.

      there will soon be a third, made from a redundant lobby, which is being turned into a small music room

      Stephen - that's amazing! A secret room is something i've always thought would be so quirky to have, but I've never actually spoken to anyone with one in their home - until now! Have you got any ideas about what the third mysterious room is going to be?

      I would have a library / craft room as I have lots of books still in boxes and love making things but haven't a space to shut myself away with a pot of tea and a talking book to craft, or somewhere to put my feet up with a book without the usual family noise pollution!

      Library/study (with no computer access).


      There was a secret room next door to my grandparents' last house. The house had been divided into two and there was one room just above the front door that didn't belong to either of the houses. We longed to see inside it, but it probably only contained dust and mice.

      A soundproof music room which I can also disappear into for hours of reading. I love to really listen without interruptions and background noise and earphones aren't really my thing!

      Genius Ocean, I would love a secret door leading to an old fashion conservatory, full of exotic flowers, misters, and wonder.

      A secret indoor swimming pool. Not interested in the rest of the spa things so I voted 'other' (though maybe a jacuzzi would be nice).

      We definitely agree with you, @teenytinyhouse - a secret wine cellar has to be the ultimate "me-time"!

      Out of curiosity, do you need planning permission for your cellars? (Just looked at your website, and they're definitely too big for my ickle cottage, but noting for future reference!)

      A secret niche full of cushions and cosy throws with a porthole window looking out onto a lush garden or a sea view. I would hide away here with a good book to escape my noisy children and their constant demands!

      I would like the games room idea, I would also sound proof it so I can play super loud heavy base music, play DVDs, and not effect anybody?

      I have an art studio but if I could I would have an even bigger one with a huge printing press, easels, a kiln and cupboards stocked with lots of materials. I would never be seen again.
