    I live in a 1920s cottage that has a very similar layout as this: sliding doors all the way across the front of the living room/the short wall, which, in my case, separates the ratty front door, which opens onto a very narrow hall and VOILA! Here is a kitchen-TINY. I have loved this cottage for so long, but my hunger for design is on a sad diet of canned worms; The house is located on a creek and used to be far more secluded- but the neighbors above and across have all made changes, so the landscape no longer provides the same kind of seclusion and privacy. WIth such a long stretch of windows for walls, any thoughts on how to get the cozy, private feeling back? And how can I make the front door actually more inviting when people walk up the stairs? Perhaps another seating area like you have here would force people to take a different route!! ~luvkat

      Such a beautiful room! It's a perfect calming neutral without a single bit of boring. I'm siting in my family room right now thinking about window coverings for my own neutral environment and I will use this photo for inspiration. Just lovely. Thanks for posting it.

      In case you want to reproduce the curtains, here is how we made them. Off white linen with contrasting stripes of gros-grain applied on the linen. They are gathered with modified French pleats which are only stitched at the top, so that the overall feeling is tidy and made to measure, but at the same time relaxed. The rods were custom, no finials. Enjoy!
